gave up on my white nuzlocke. whited out a ton of times (whiteouts are resets for me, no pussy shit) got to the third gym then just went meh when I realized the grinding I had to go through and now Im done (It was a randomizer so no vet clause). Heres my legacy I guess (one thing I dont state in the image is that i have trade evos off so thats why I can get alakazam, kingdra, etc)

Hello all, I played X years ago and really liked it, so let's see how Kalos holds up on a replay. This time I'm going through Y.

For my first playthrough I used Froakie (which is ironically "hard mode" IIRC) but now I'm going with Chespin, because it's cute. I titled thee "Rolf."

Norman was easy,wow.
Raph was my obvious lead because he's the only one in the team with great bulk.
Well,he did his job.
The first Slaking was slowly defeated thanks to that awesome Body Slam he has.
Vigoroth was a bit more difficult,I needed to change for a second him with Venom Snek,who went nuclear on his ass.
The final Slaking was even easier.
First of all,as usual,he spammed Focus Punch so you can basically stop him from attacking forever.
And second,Raph learned Protect right after Vigoroth.
So Raph won without taking not even 1 hp damage from that beast.
Now I've caught a Corphish,did the New Mauville thing for Thunderbolt,but I've lost my encounter on route 118 because lol crits.
Despite that,this run is going smoothly for now.

Went into the Fighting gym thinking I'd have this shit on lock considering Alicia quad resisted Fighting and had Gust
And of course my dumb peabrain self forgets that Brawly's Machop has Seismic Toss, the tricky cunt
Luckily, what could've ended in a total party wipe resulted in both Alicia and Asura hanging on by the skin of their teeth (10HP and 6HP respectively), Asura surviving Makuhita's Arm Thrust only because it only hit two times...let's never ever be hopeful, aka cocky, again

My progress so far, just arriving at Sycamore's lab. I was about ready to blow this off when I got Pidgey -> Caterpie at the start (even with the first Pidgey encounter "clause") cause KAAAAANTOOOOOO, but I caught a team genetically engineered to sweep Viola's gym.

I pose a question though, how do you guys feel about freebies? This game is chuck full of them, do you think they're cheap? Should I save them as reserves in case there's a KO? I think the game sort of expects you to use them, or at least it seems weird to not use the Kanto starters when the game expects you to Mega Evolve. Not using one would just be denying the mechanic, I think.

In any case Squirtle would be nice cause IIRC, the water selection is very weak early on. What do you think?

In the 5 times I ran Kalos I always got the Azu-line. I do think Squirtle would be pretty good. I always go for Bulba since there isnt much to catch grass-wise until pretty late in the game. And poison typing for the Fairy type.

Venusaur is ridiculously good in Kalos Nuzlockes.

I'm aware and decided against it. Getting Shiftry earlier is worth it, especially since Extrasensory has no actual endgame value for Shiftry- both because of it being Adamant, and the fact that the only important mons left where it would be good is Wally's Roselia. There's not a single mon in either the Elite 4 or Steven's team that are hit harder by it than one of Shiftry's other options either.

Update on my Storm Silver run.
Just beat Clair, who killed my Crobat with her Kingdra (which I'm pretty sure had sniper, even if it was hydro pump I very much doubt it could 2HKO from full health). This was after Giovanni took me off guard and killed Gallade and Arcanine. So now I'm left with these guys and a newborn Riolu, I'm off to Ecruteak to face the kimono girls and then to Whirl Islands, hope I get something good from there.

I'm doing a Red Nuzlocke, with a current team of Squirtle, Rattata, NidoranM, Pidgey, Beedrill, and Butterfree. I'm about to head into Mt. Moon, but I'm wondering if I should buy the Magikarp. If I buy it, I can't catch a Spearow or Ekans on this route, but both are able to be caught later. So is Magikarp though, so what do you guys think?

Just beat Misty, who was a total pushover. Thank you Gyarados, very cool. We've only had one death so far, but that number was almost way higher thanks to the Route 25 Slowpoke that I completely forgot about. After I managed to beat him, all of my mons but Mortimer were super low, and the only reason Mortimer wasn't is because I never sent him out, because he would die.

Red is the one and only thing I will use Rare Candy cheats for in these Nuzlockes.

I start out with Joy. I don't expect too much out of Ariados, so I'll just do as much damage with her as I can before switching out.
Pikachu fails a Charm and thus falls to Joy's Sludge Bomb.

Joy's Sludge Bomb does really good damage and poisons snorlax, who uses Amnesia.
The poison damage is actually enough to put Snorlax low enough for a second Sludge Bomb to take out Snorlax. I'm assuming I had luck with the damage rolls.

...Red, you are a moron.
It uses Sunny Day and Joy puts it down below half health with Psychic. I decide to see how much damage Venusaur does- if possible, I'll stall out the Sunny Day.
Venusaur fires of a Solar Beam... which does laughable damage thanks to 4x resist. Joy uses Scary Face... partly to stall, partly to make sure that once the final turn of Sunny Day comes, she can take out Venusaur immediately.
Scary Face and Solar Beam trades happen twice, then Psychic wipes out Venusaur as the sunlight fades.
>Charizard
Joy has done a great job, but now it's time to let her rest a bit, so I send in Minwu on a Flamethrower. Charizard uses Wing Attack, but dies to a Surf Crit(this likely would have killed anyway, though).
>Espeon
Espeon decides to use Psychic, and Minwu Surfs at it.
Espeon fires of another Psychic, and Minwu Rests, using a Mint Berry to wake up immediately.
The next turn both mons use Psychic due to me misclicking.
Finally, Espeon puts out a fourth Psychic before falling to Surf.
>Blastoise
Blastoise gets a Surf in before Swagger causes it to hurt itself twice and eat two Psychics, demolishing it.

I'm doing perma, battle style set, no Pokémon Centres and I added PokéMarts as well. The last one is pretty hard, though, I'm not sure if I'm good enough at these games to see it through. I can't imagine you can sustain yourself on overworld ethers.

I usually make it a point of Nuzlockes to catch the box legendary because that's presumably harder than just killing it, but Lugia is probably the easiest base 3 Pokemon to catch

Shiftry then Double Teams as Camille Screeches at it. Another Double Team is used, but to no avail as Camille ends it with Brick Break.

Camille Screeches at it while it uses Future Sight. Shadow Ball dispatches it easily.

I send Heloise in on a Spite. Future Sight hits her, which surprised me, I thought it was effected by the Psychic immunity.
Heloise lands a Faint Attack before being Will-O-Wisped.
Phoebe uses a Full Restore, but Giga Drain makes that more of a boon for me than her, really. Another Faint Attack ends it.

Heloise uses Synthesis- she should be able to take a supereffective hit here with no trouble, but I want to see if I can bait out a Confuse Ray- and it works. I should be able to get Orson in safely now, since it's unlike to use Confuse Ray on the switch now.
Ice Beam is a nice move to switch in on especially.
Orson's Water Spout annihilates Dusclops.

Once that is done, Heloise comes in and takes Walrein out in two Strengths.

Dragon Claw does more than I expect, but Ice Beam deletes Salamence from existence.

As Altaria Dragon Dances, I have Hitomi ChestoRest.
The next Dragonbreath paralyzes, but Ice Beam ends Altaria anyhow.

It sets up a Sandstorm, but gets no use out of it as Ice Beam annihilates it.

I'm in a terrible spot here- Arden's possibly dead unless Steven screws up, but my best ways to deal with his Armaldo are injured enough that they can't switch in, and the only healthy mons are definitely not certain to be able to handle him.
Arden's use protect two times in a row- his AncientPower is down to two uses.
Camille jumps in to take an AncientPower.
In comes the last healthy mon to eat the last one- Heloise.
Now his hitting power is significantly lowered, so I send in Orson on an Aerial Ace.
He goes into the red, but gets a ChestoRest off, and Slash doesn't do too much damage.
Water Spout ends this run.

That Armaldo situation was risky, but I somehow got out of it with everyone alive.
I could have had a safer time if I just sacked Arden, but I didn't.

I did the ruby one on an emulator while waiting for about a week on one of my buddies to play a match with our Crystal teams, so I pretty much put Crystal on hold right before Blue. That Locke could have ended quite a while ago.
Ruby was fast, but that's certainly in part due to the emulator.

Back at it again with my Y Nuzlocke, I've made quite a bit of progress since Sycamore's Lab in Lumiose City.

I caught a Pancham in Route 5, evolved both my starters, and snagged a Venipede on my way to Parfum Palace. Whoever said this would be a hard point in the game wasn't kidding, I ran into the infamous Furfrou double battle. They're pretty tanky all things considered, and there's double the chance for flinch from Headbutt. Thankfully Rolf could just stack Leech Seed with Protect, and Toto's very defensive after a few Withdraws. Unfortunately things wouldn't be so smooth, because immediately after I lost my Fletchling Pyra to a Venipede's Rollout that would crit. A real bummer this was, but at least I had my first Pidgey sitting in storage, and now Coco's my go-to Flying type.

Since I'm at Route 7 now, how should I go about handling the Snorlax situation? There's no way for me to catch anything on this route (I think?) until I pass it, but that would of course count as an encounter. Should I treat it just like Pidgey and do a "Snorlax Clause?" What do you guys usually do?

Non-legendary and non-mythical Statics can be disregarded as an encounter SO LONG AS other non-legendary/mythical and non-Static opportunities exist further in the area and the Static in question impedes access to those catching areas. So you can either grab the 'Lax, or kill it and encounter something else. Regardless, it's an either/or.

Playing Omega Fire Red for the first time, I kind of YOLO'd it against Brock, since 5 of my mons had an easy time against his (Water/Grass/Fighting/Double Kick Nidoran/Karate Chop Elekid), and it was surprisingly easy.

I don't think anyone has ever said this before in the existence of time, but Sunflora kicked ass. If I manage to find the Sludge Bomb TM I might keep her in my team, otherwise I'll be sad to let her go since she learns nothing but Grass moves.

X Accuracy Horn Drill is bordering on broken on fast mons like Rapidash and the like in gen 1, but on the other hand, I don't feel bad about using it on Rapidash since that's not a particularly strong mon otherwise. Same for Seaking and a few others.
In later gens, I don't think there's anything wrong with them. They have a low chance of success and are usually not the best option, but if you can somehow make it work, good for you.

Vivillon's next Tackle is a crit and puts Ashley deep in the red- infestation is gonna kill unless... Ember Crit right back!

That was some ridiculous luck at the end there. I underestimated Vivilon- if that Tackle hadn't criticalled it probably would still be winning the head to head, and if Ember didn't crit, there's a good chance Viola would have used a Potion- and Infestation would doom Ashley.
Jeez. Not gonna be this laidback next time. I could've avoided this scare with a Level 12 Butterfree instead of a Level 10 one, but I thought I wouldn't need it.

XY is fun to Nuzlocke because it offers a lot of mons fairly quickly out of the gate, so you can tailor a team together fairly quickly. It's not a hard game, but most of the "easiness" comes from Exp Share level advantages, so if you play with level caps(like me) it's alright in difficulty.
My Y run made me paranoid about two wild mons in particular: Absol(one of them pursuited my Honedge to death) and Wobbuffet(get stuck against one with the wrong mon and you can kiss that one goodbye).

Made a lot of progress today in Y, and by progress, I made it to the 2nd gym after two days (good ol' Kalos)

I overcame the infamous Dragon Rage using Axew, and beat Grant with very little issues thanks to my two starters having a type advantage. Everything seemed easy and I was getting confident, however one random Team Flare battle took me by surprise. He had a level 23 Golbat my team just wasn't ready for after going through route 10. It shredded through three of my party members, two of which were high level. I lost a recently captured Mienfoo, my designated fire type, and a starter. My team was just too weak to handle a bulky flying type at the time.

This is a real bummer, losing your starter is not only awkward in and of itself, but I lost a grass type that was not only bulky but carried me through some noteworthy killers. It's gonna be tough to recover from here.

Tragedy continues with a random Korrina battle almost immediately after Flare's sweep. Her Lucario got a Swords Dance off and tore through the rest. I lost my other starter + higher level back ups, and now the only thing keeping my alive was Croagunk, my favorite Pokemon.

At this point I had to go for an almost complete reset, and would end up losing Goon in Reflection Cave to a spiffy Hawlucha. The fact that I'm still playing is nothing short of a miracle, as I would find out that Sigilyph is incredibly strong at this point in the game. It can set up walls for the frustrating double battles, has a strong typing, and surprisingly bulky. It was the backbone of my team until I got a Nidoking and Mega Lucario.

I might be having a really bad run, but despite the simplicity of Kalos, I feel like it's very momentum based. You're expected to be strong at certain points with surprise battles, but the wild Pokemon and limited trainers don't give you much leverage if you lose heavy hitters. Things would probably be a little more manageable if I didn't run the battle style in Set.

As of now I'm storming Team Flare's power plant, let's see how this goes.

It's up to you I suppose. I usually omit multi encounters (like partner sections in DPPt or BW1/2's double grass) because you can choose who to catch, but horde battles feel kind of iffy since they're all the same pokemon most of the time

I managed to catch Victini here >>39495404 with little issue. Golmansags managed to debilitate it enough with Snarl and Sand Attack that it could barely hit me at all.
I decided I'd take the newly caught Andraste the Victini to Burgh's gym for fun and it made it quite easy for the most part. It still took enough damage over time to warrant switching in to others against the gym leader.

I may not use Andraste very much unless things get hairy.

Johto can be pretty boring since a lot of it is easy and variety isn't always that great. Plus there's a shit ton of grinding. That said I really enjoyed my most recent Soul Silver run since I ended up using some unusual shit like Magcargo and Forretress, plus Hitmontop extremely late when my Dodrio died.

USUM and SM have the cutscene problem and lack of variety in several places, but you'll still get some unique Pokemon to use. They have a good challenge and I wouldn't say they were bad to run.

BW2's early parts really don't work well for nuzlockes but it gets better after that. It's really hard too, Victory Road in BW2 can easily kill a lot of mons.

my god, did that Totem Araquanid once wiped me on a normal run. The final battle against the trainer's school teacher can be lethal. The Ultra Recon Furfrou fight is...horrible if you can't either stall it out or get lucky with crits/encounters with fighting moves.

BW's not bad, just watch out for a lack of good coverage available until you're on the E4's doorstep.
Even with unlimited TMs, many of the good coverage moves will require either going out of your way to collect items or grinding in the Subway.

...Red just died in Connecting Cave.
Leech Seeded the wild Axew who was my first encounter, took an Assurance, was put on exactly 40 HP, and then got Dragon Rage'd. I didn't know Axew got it quite that early.
I had some stupid luck and managed to snag it in an Ultra Ball after switching around mons to let it be weakened by Leech Seed. Thankfully it didn't Dragon Rage much, else I couldn't have stayed long enough to wear it down.

After being facing the Lvl 38 Hypno and almost losing 1/2 my team to crits, I decided to do a little work on the team. Grabbed EQ and surf and let Dromon sweep through the rest of the gym he almost one shot every one of Koga's pokemon. After Surge reminded me Gym leaders are supposed to take casualties taking Dragonite out with his Electivire, I had to take the long way around and just arrived at Celadon. Catching new mons is gonna be hard as what Kanto has going for it in trainers, it severely lacks in wild pokemon selection, I had caught a Roselia to make up for losing Vileplume, but I had to sac it to prevent a swords dance Scizor from blasting my whole team. I did get a quite promising Skorupi along the way and my Celadon catch is gonna be a Metang from the game corner, so I think I'm set for the remaining girl leaders, though I'm getting concerned about just about every pokemon I'm getting being physically oriented

Platinum has a rep of being one of the harder vanilla games to nuzlocke, but it also has many things you can use to your advantage, like replenishable TMs through the game corner and the best rematch mechanic in the series so you can grind both money and exp. Platinum's Sinnoh also has a generally strong selection of pokemon, so it's hard to get a shitmon

So, I'm wondering what limitations people here have used for Mega formes.
I don't want to just ban them outright, but with no limitation on them they'll end up tearing up the game(in fairness, so do some non-megas).
One obvious limitation is clearly to not allow them while fighting mooks, only bosses(aka Gym Leaders) but it would be nice to see what methods other nuzlockers in these threads have used.

I think I'll go with

because that's fairly easy to keep straight since I already use the gym leaders ace as the level cap for normal mons.
That way they won't be outright underleveled, but they will be at least somewhat reasonably held back.

Short update tonight. I simply made my way through Route 4 and took on N in Nimbasa City. Unfortunately, Myron was blasted by a critical Psybeam.

Okay guys so my last update was pretty long ago, after the Ice type gym. I got into Drayden's gym hoping to sweep it with a set up Conkeldurr because I had no counter to his Haxorus. I forgot about Dragon Tail, but managed to win with no deaths because Klang was able to Gear Grind a x4 Haxorus on his own.

Sadly, crits and death followed while training on Route 10. Cheren's Simipour took down my Gothitelle and Klang (RIP) and Swanna died too along the way.
Anyway, I managed to Dupe Clause my way into an Axew as I hadn't explored Mistralton Cave yet, and got the guaranteed Excadrill on Victory Road. I also got lucky and got a Pawniard on Route 9 earlier on. So I have been grinding for a few days to evolve Haxorus and Bisharp and I'm sick of training already. I just realized I can keep training before the N fight, so I'm going into the E4 now. Marshal is scary asf, but I plan to Dragon Dance my way through. Wish me luck!

Managed to get out of the E4 alive. A few close calls with Haxorus vs Cofagrigus, after which he swept the rest of his team, and Darmanitan vs Reuniclus to take out the highest damage threat. Onto N now.

Grant uses a Hyper Potion, but the second Rock Smash lowers defense, so the third one will kill no matter what. Also, Quick Feet allows Jem to go first and deliver the final blow.

Quick Feet allows Jem to pull of a fast Charm on Tyrunt. However, Rock Tomb lowers Jem's speed.
Tyrunt then flinches Jem twice with Stomp, and then scores a crit on the third, sending Jem into the red. Thankfully there's no flinch, so Jem gets a Rock Smash in.
Chase comes in on another stomp, and then finishes the battle with Dragon Rage.

I count it as it's own area. It has a unique set of mons that can only be caught there, so I call it separate from rts 15/16

No, I haven't killed any encounters accidentally just yet. Route 4 and Liberty Garden are the latest areas I've made an encounter in.

It's actually possible to get most of the old Wi-Fi event Pokemon for the DS games if you set up your DS/3DS internet settings correctly. It's how I am able to get Zorua and Victini in my current run, as well as the TM for Snarl. Perhaps it's something you two could try out if your "DS" has the capabilities?
