Not even just once. But twice. And every time I try to get excited about new Gen 8 things, something else pops up that absolutely destroys my hype. I have some reservations but still interested in the game. A lot of this pre release drama has angered me on various occasions and brought me close to canceling my preorder multiple times.

I like the new pokemon designs and interested in seeing them in action and interacting with them. I also like to collect things, which pokemon is good for. I already collected all of them, so having a limited amount in the game isnt that impacting. I'm mostly wanting to encounter the new pokemon anyway. If I want to battle I can just use showdown.

The sense of adventure is also enjoyable, but the games are easy enough that it's relaxing compared to other games I play. So it's a nice game to wind down with or enjoy after a tough day at work.

It's not okay for a company to be lazy, but if that was my protocol for buying games, I'd not have many games. I also don't buy games from devs that aren't lazy. I buy products I think I'll enjoy.

I think botw is objectively a bad game and people fight me tooth and nail over how it's a masterpiece. None of their arguments go much further than "its big" and "its fun" and sometimes "you can climb walls".

So for good reasons to not buy the game.
1) it encourages Game Freak to continue to cut features while making piss-poor excuses (each and every reason Masuda has given has been handily debunked. They do not care about competitive balance, or at least we should be heavily skeptical of claims they do when they haven't ever before. All the previous Pokemon would without a doubt fit into the game. They future-proofed the old models in XY with absurdly high poly counts, all that ever needs to be updated is the textures at most. Yes that's work, but that's nowhere near the same as making models from scratch, especially when they DID make all the models from scratch in XY, on the 3DS, with only a handful less new Pokemon. If it's harder than that, they brought it on themselves.)
2) you're paying more, for what by all means appears to be the exact same game as a 3DS game with new textures and a few filters tossed on. Seriously, it looks nearly the same as the 3DS games being played on an emulator without any filters. Why should I pay more, for the same shit I've gotten since XY with a shiny new coat of paint on it, when everything else we see seems to be pretty par the course for Pokemon?
3) you're also encouraging Pokemon to start to partake in predatory practices if you do preorder. We've had two instances of there being in-game preorder bonuses now. For Pokemon. Some people complained about the early-play rewards like the Torchic in X and Y, the Beldum in ORAS, the Snorlaxium Z in SuMo, or the Rockruff in USuMo. But you didn't have to pre-order the game in order to get these bonuses; just buy it within the first few months of release. And the Torchic, Rockruff, and technically the Beldum are all breedable anyways. This is a step in the wrong direction and I refuse to encourage it.

In fact, a reason to buy the game is to avoid pokemons inevitable switch to mobile. If the main games fail while masters and go succeed, where do you think Nintendo will lean? Whatever makes their shareholders happy. Which is short term gains from mobile games.
4. Pokemon is in game content. Content seems to me like a reason to be interested in games. Like botw is a boring generic open world game. Slap Zelda content in it and people act like it's the second coming of the messiah.
So no, none of those are good reasons, just good enough reasons for you to not want it. You like many others seem more angry not everyone is demanding quality youd enjoy, because you want to feel justified when buying a game in a series you loved.
Ive played amazing games, ive played shitty games, whether you feel your purchase is or will be worth it is reason enough to buy it or not buy it.

1. The product should be of the highest quality possible to encourage the consumers to buy it. The producer shouldn't say things like "It is very difficult to make the game, so I hope people don't get their expectations up too high.", or "We didn't feel that we would be able to support all the content in future games, so we chose to cut it."
2. You are literally paying more money for less content. There is no reason to buy this game when HeartGold & SoulSilver and Black 2 & White 2 will have more content than Sword & Shield. You can't excuse this by saying "I feel it's worth it" because it's not.

Neither have you, but here you are defending why it is worth a purchase. We KNOW that there won't be more than 700 Pokemon in the games, possibly fewer than 450 Pokemon. We KNOW that Megas and Z-Moves aren't in the game.
