It’s amazing how much better Platinum really is. These games looked super fucking ugly and had way too many reused textures, and Platinum made the world feel more unique and lively. Also the first game to expand dex mid game too. I also always thought Cyrus using only time OR space to remake the universe was fucking stupid so I’m glad he used both, overall a really good 3rd version to honestly underwhelming introduction games to the DS and their family of systems.

XY is a fucking missed opportunity. If they wised up and released a third version that fixed its issues it could’ve been so damn good. Like at least Platinum remedies a lot of DP’s issues.

Gen IV engine was definitely a big step down from 3 (60FPS > 24FPS) so it was way slower and clunkier, but dude, by comparison to whatever “games” have come out lately? DP is a renowned masterpiece, more than that, relative to feces like “Pokémon (Ultra) Sun & Moon”

Gen 1 and 4 have issues - all games do - but in terms of mechanics they are THE most Pokémon games in the series in that they set the general standards/themes for the series.

If you don't appreciate Gen 1 and 4, then your complaints about the series as a whole should be ignored because you simply don't like Pokémon.

Gen 4 didn't set the shit-tier standard we have now, that was Gen 3. It created the revamped stat system as we know it and set up the "evil team needs box legend" gimmick the rest of the series has been using. Don't get me wrong though, gen 4 did bring Wifi and the physical-special split, but gen 3 was baseline.
