It was fine until gen 3+ when legends became exclusive. No one is going to trade a once per save file pokemon for something you can breed. It's completely ridiculous in games like ORAS and USUM now with so many legends split up.

it was fine up until the gts was introduced in gen 4 as you were meant to meet up and trade with friends with the opposite version to get version exclusives, but there's no longer any point in version exclusives now when you can just get them off the gts

If you have a friend with the other game you can go to some areas in ur friends game in bw. not sure about b2w2.
its basically watered down lets go multiplayer iirc. It's not unlocking the full game though

Lugia and Ho-oh can still be obtained in the other versions in the remake. Though Groudon/Kyogre and Latios/Latias are version exclusive

If the original intention was to make it so that you had to trade with friends then every other dual version beyond first gen was bollocks. You'd already have to trade from first gen to send gen without the need for three versions of the game.

Somewhat agree, but you chose the worst example since GS had a different sprite for every mon unlike any other games. Another way in which Gen II was peak soul.

Only because the differences between each version is negligible. Unless we can get something on par with pic related or DemiKids they should at this point make a game where what's available in your save is determined by your trainer ID and hidden flags.

It could be done in a really cool way:

>100 previous-gen pokemon exclusive to each game (e.g. Buneary/Geodude/Zubat on one, Bunnelby/Roggenrola/Woobat on another)
>NPCs have different pokemon in battles
>Gift pokemon are completely different
>at least 4 version-exclusive Gym Leaders
>trainer clothing options completely different in both
>level up moves for starters are different (more attacking moves in Sword, more defensive moves in Shield)
>legendary story is different in both games
>some towns/cities/routes have different things in each game
