>>39460833This isn't true. Models themselves are made within 3D software, such as Maya/3ds Max, literally every game studio/animation studio uses them to create 3D models and animations and model formats are all standardised within the industry.
Having access to these base files means Game Freak would simply be able to export the models into a new format with a few clicks of a mouse. It could even be automated through a script. It's no different than changing an image file type within photoshop for example.
But trust me, as someone that knows about 3D Modelling, the models themselves are using the exact same topology. Meaning all the individual vertices (the points within 3D space that make up a 3D object) are in the exact same locations. This means the mesh models are the exact same ones they were using within previous games. It would be vertically impossible for them to match vertex by vertex and also incredible stupid. Literally no game studio would do this.
Think of it as painting a picture of something twice, if you were to compare both pictures there would be subtle differences, even if you tried purposely to match them as close as possible. And this is a 2D painting, when you add depth in the case of 3D it becomes increasingly complex.
