It's pretty obvious the games are designed from a male protagonist pov and that the female player is just an afterthought. I was playing LG recently and I realized all the NPCs treat you like a guy; Beauties, that creep outside the Celadon Gym, etc. Even in recent games like XY and SM/USUM you quickly realize the default option is male since there is a female companion that is poorly-written to be your love interest (half-assedly re-purposed to be a friend if you're a girl).

The french guy from Sinnoh and the dudes from Black 1 & 2 aren't even known in their regions; the female MC is the relevant one for Gens 4 and 5.

Gen 6 is a tossup. While Serena is more relevant than Caleb, I think everyone accepts her as the jobber rival. She even friendzones the player, which doesn't work quite as well with a genderswap, so Caleb wins this one.

Gen 7 again yeah the male MC wins, he even has the same clothes as Satoshi from the Sun & Moon anime.

And N is a character of ideals. Zekrom is the perfect Pokemon for N, and the plot of BW makes more sense with Hilbert getting Reshiram.

But then the conflict with N makes no sense. N doesn't have Truth, only his ideals, because he has been intentionally shielded from the truth. His whole character arc is him wanting the PC to get the dragon of Truth to prove his ideals can surpass truth. Even him losing is most thematic, as by losing to the hero of truth, he decides to leave Unova so that he can see the world for himself and learn the truth now for himself. And in doing so, his ideals change, grow and become tempered.
