Other shoppers just pretended not to notice and go on about their business. That's the real way adults react to weirdness: they just do their best to not get involved and pretend it isn't happening. They're not going to give a shit about someone taking a picture of a little device unless someone says 'bomb.' This happens in gradeschool, yes, but if you're old enough to post here, you should know this isn't a thing.
