Does anyone else have autistic rules when making pokemon teams? For me it's
>no legendaries
>all pokemon must come from the region at hand, even if they're in the local pokedex
>when playing the other version or replaying, I cannot use pokemon I used previously

But anon, surely you know a species can migrate or be found in more than one nation or region. Example here in the Illinois/Indiana region we have the fastest species of bird the Peregrine Falcon, yet it is also found in Arizona. Doesn’t mean that the species is only indigenous to one region or neither but can be found in both with drastically different environments.

I've wanted to adhere to that rule, but I only end up naming like 1 caught Pokemon and give up trying to come up with nicknames. For some reason it's impossible to come up with good names.

It's not really a "rule" for me, but I avoid bird/bug pokemon because normally they become useless once you get to E4 because of all their weaknesses. Heracross and Flygon are exceptions to this

I know that, but a lot of times I'd just rather use ones introudced in that gen, especially since I've probably used a lot of them in prior games. For that reason I chose gardevoir over alakazam in RSE

Wow you have a pretty similar ruleset as me. The only differences are:

I.E I can't use Magnezone or
Porygon Z in DPP. Despite all these Pokemon being introduced in the Gen 4 games, I still view both of those evo lines as being Gen 1, thus can only be used in RBY/Remakes. Sometimes sucks cause they haven't appeared in a RBY remake since they were introduced. (Thanks LGPE)

Now that I read these rules, it is quite autistic, but it allows me to focus on the new Pokemon introduced in each generation.

Have used some low level legendaries in some playthroughs. You reach a certain point when you've used almost every evolutionary line in the game so you're itching for some variety. Legendaries aren't that bad considering they take longer to level up and don't have good level up movesets. Yes, they're broken, but Pokemon games are easier anyway. I've used legendaries like the event Victini, Keldeo and Meloetta, some of the dream radar Pokemon, the lv 1 Creation Trio and Regigigas and lv 30 Deoxys and so on. Still haven't used any of the ones you only catch at high levels like Mewtwo and such because at that point it's almost the end of the game and unless you've been playing with five mons all this time, you'll have to drop one.

Anyway, my rules are to make the experience as immersive as possible for me
>nicknames
>on a first playthrough, only use mons from that gen
>on subsequent playthroughs, only use mons I haven't used before
>often trade mons not in the regional dex to make the experience more interesting
>always bring my hall of fame teams up to the recent game
>sometimes rotate squads
>put time into amie/refresh
>use Pokemon caught in previous games that I didn't get a chance to use instead of catching one of the same in the current game

Cannot use any Pokemon I brought into a gym battle. Makes it more interesting, figuring out which Pokemon I want to save for lategame and which Pokemon I can "afford" to lose on early gyms.
Also ensures I get to use a ton of Pokemon. Even using three Pokemon per gym means I've gotten a feel for 24 different Pokemon.

i do the "from that region" rule on the first 3 playthroughs / till I've used all starters.
I used to do "no shared types" rule but thats too tedious to work around when ive used so many pokemon and want to use new ones.

Monotypes playthroughs. Five from new gen, one from any other. If there are more than five of the type, make two teams(playthroughs). All is welcome. Mythicals. Legendaries. Promos. Shinies. This is their gen. It's their time to shine!
First playthrough is main one and the one that doesn't follow monotypes.
