Assuming GF did remake the models from scratch (which is retarded and definitely a lie), they don't have to make all 809. The first 151 are already done for LGPee. What's stopping them from doing the other 658?

If they managed to remake around 500 of those, the question becomes about why they didn't just get the last hundred out of the way.
Realistically I think they only managed to bring back 300-400 old mons.
As for why they couldn't do more, I suspect shitty priorities, poor management, laziness, or all of the above.

My best guess would be making the models for everything else - people, buildings, furniture, landscapes, new pokemon, trainer customization, ect. But even that doesn't make sense because a lot of those assets would be static meshes with maybe a handful of recolored textures. Also if they knew they had a problem from LGPE then they could have brought on a few people specifically to redo models.

I have 6 years of game development experience and 10 years of programming in general, granted not much in asset creation but understanding how models work is important for creating rendering engines. There is no way they had to redo the models, just save them in a different format after maybe adjusting axis orientation and scaling up textures so they hold up on higher resolution tvs. It should literally have been done with a batch script running overnight and maybe 20 minutes in photoshop up-sampling and touching up per texture.

And rest assured, this has little to do with them not having the manpower to bring all Pokémon back. If they cared, DLCs are a thing. Or they could promise that future games will have all Pokémon available, while they keep working on future proofing the models, given they had to do them from scratch (which is an utter lie of course). There are MANY solutions to this whole problem.

But they picked the one that caused the biggest backlash: coming forward, all Pokémon will not be available in all games. The reason is unknown, but if this isn't a technical issue (which is not, Switch cartridges have a lot more of space than 3DS ones), then it can only be a commercial one. Something else drove them to cull the dex.

I'd suspect diminishing returns, or just some sort of move to earn more money, who knows.

Did people really forget that it isn't Game Freak but Creatures Inc. that's in charge of making ALL POKÉMON 3D MODELS? It's basically the only reason they exist anymore aside from making Detective Pikachu.

This is exactly what I've been thinking since they announced it. There's no other explanation. They want people to move on to the next game as soon as possible. This is consistent with what Masuda said in 2014 when asked about the lack of content in ORAS. I think there's another reason, too: keeping Pokémon trapped inside Pokémon Home. If you start paying for it, then you would lose your Pokémon if you wanted to stop using it. It's also a way to bring all of their audience to smartphones.

They do the models, but not the animating if memory serves. Which is why they're credited with doing all the models in the stadium/Colosseum/Battle Revolution games, too.

Also, just in case someone gets confused, pic related there isn't intended to imply they're models.

I was just including that to show how much better they were with sprites too. What SC did with the first 5 PMD games is realistically what Game Freak should've worked towards with the main series rather than 3D.

Completely agree, I love Chunsoft's graphics. I like the graphics in the 3DS PMD games too, but the 2d art was even better. Some of their other games look great too, Shiren on the Vita looks amazing.
