Playing BW before B2W2 is pretty much required even if I'm 90% sure I won't enjoy the main story, right?
And a similar question about SM and USUM. Is there any significant reason to not skip SM?
To clarify, I don't really care about the main story (read: N and Lillie) in both cases, but I do care about presentation/development of NPCs, lore tidbits and references.
From what I can tell there's no way around BW as B2W2 is a direct sequel and an important point for enjoyment of the game is observing how the region and characters changed since BW.
And USUM is just a somewhat improved SM with more content, but the story and some characters are worse than they were in SM as I've heard.
