That's why we're complaining? Especially since as >>39490492 said it's always been true meaning it's no excuse now.

Especially since that involved delays in the past because the merch only needs a game to be in development, not released because nothing stops TPC from using the unreleased designs.

They had time to make filler back then. They don't now. You can't announce a delay just four months ahead of release, it'll fuck up the schedule because everyone's moved on to Gen 8 and has their stuff ready to release in November.

The new merchandise can't release without the games. The Sword & Shield anime can't start airing without the games.

Pokemon merch is bullshit. I can't buy merch of my favorite Pokemon if they don't make it, and they won't make it if my favorite isn't in the games. My actual favorite is a Kantomon, and thus immortal, but my statement holds true in general.

They really need to do more limited runs of plush/figures for some of the more obscure Pokemon. You can find 1000 people who would buy a plush Sunkern or Basculin, but they can't if you don't fucking sell it.
