Do people still think it needs to sell badly/not profit for them to consider it a failure? The games could sell one million and they'd probably profit and a number like that is something few games ever achieve but it'd be a hilariously catastrophic failure for Pokemon.

They need to underperform. If expectations are 15M and they sell 14M, that's REALLY bad.

Shit, even if you just scream at a company loud enough they might cave to protect their reputation.

It's done its job. Interest in the games has severely dropped, and people are more interested in the controversy than what they have to offer. It also helps that more people are becoming increasingly aware of how lazy GF is.

I want to be as positive as you but on Twitter you’ll see simply how many apologists there are, as well as neutrals who don’t care. They need to empathize with us though. How else can we pass on the message? Negativity around the series sends a message to other consumers. However I do agree some people are going a bit overboard and nitpicking unfairly, but people use the nitpicking of some as a factor to undermine the whole movement.

I empathize. And it's not like memes or propoganda isn't effective. It may be better to be more quiet about it until close to release. Otherwise, you're battling against new reveals and trailers. Most people are not following news actively, they just see stuff on their Twitter feeds.
People generally react to "bad/damning news" extensively at first and tire of it quickly. Hence you sometimes see big bomb shells dropped close to a release or deadline. It's fresh on people's minds and influences their choices. That's why gf chose to announce this bad news months in advance. They'll follow up showing new pokemon and exciting trailers and the negative news will be forgotten or forgiven.
