So what's even the point of Lillie's Magearna? I thought it'd awaken before the league so Lillie could use it for some extra firepower, but Magearna is still dead and Lillie already got eliminated

As the SM anime draws to a close, the character's futures will be planned out. Lillie and Gladion will go off travelling, most likely to search for Mohn, but it could be that he comes back and they're then free to go travelling because Lusamine won't be alone. Kukui will announce that the Alola league was a great success and lots of outside trainers are now coming there to qualify for it, so they need new Trial Captains, Ilima will become one immediately and the other four will start training.

Cut story arc to transfer over to Galar along with Meltan.

We were going to get Ash/Lillie/Hop with Serena visiting due to the Kalos connection but that's down the shitter because all of Kalos was cut from Sword and Shield at the drawing board

It is, I don't follow SM so I don't know if they've shown us Magearna's core at all. Odds are someone thinks it's a Mega Stone and is holding it if they haven't shown the core yet.

The Mohn arc is going to take place after the League. We saw Magearna’s Soul Heart in a book Lillie was reading that Mohn left behind. After the League ends she’s going to go look for it. Gladion also said after the League ends, he’s going to go look for Mohn too.
