I love DQXI and am playing around with the post-game, but it's been absolute years since the amazing DQIX and DQX was a shıtty attempt at trying to get Dragon Quest a Final Fantasy XIV clone.

Pokemon needs to be better but comparing a yearly franchise to a franchise that's more spread out isn't a totally fair comparison.

That said I'd love for Pokemon to adapt a more traditional release cycle.

To be fair DQ always sells like shit anywhere but Japan. I think out of the latest game's four million sales, 3.4 million were in Japan. And it wasn't even on Switch, Japan's most popular platform. They despise home consoles and it still sold like crazy.

Have you ever consider that things get popular because a lot of people consider them to be good and that individual game quality is subjective from person to person and that what you see in games like botw is different from that of most people? Like many probably say FF7s the best because they all probably got more out of it than you did, be it for many different reasons. I don't think popularity equals quality. But people do cling to popular things regardless of its quality and push hard that they're "masterpieces". It must be good if lots of people like it.
Brands and names are really important, hence most companies rely on pushing their brand name over making quality products.
Another good example of this is Apple. People prefer Apple is because everyone else uses Apple, enough they'd spend considerably more money on a normal phone.

That's not as impressive as it used to be. All the cutscenes we've seen from S/S seem to be real time as well.
What people don't seem to be understanding is there's a difference between TYPES of cutscenes and cutscene animation.

Breaks down to 3 rough categories:
>Major Motions: Totally unique animations that are only ever used in that one specific scene, usually much more dynamic and don't loop. Stuff like Jade and Hendrik actually fighting there are an example of this. We've seen scattered shots of stuff like that in S/S, but nothing as action-packed as that yet. The starter Pokemon introductions seem to be that type though.
>Minor Motions: Simple loops for talking with more dynamic and unique poses. Basically everything in that video from 3:23 onward is this type. They're not widely used but they may be reused or looped excessively for the sake of small cutscenes. There's not as much interplay between characters either. We've seen a few things like this like Sonia's hair twirling
>Generic Motions: Really basic motions that get reused across many characters throughout the whole game. NPC talking animations and the like. Don't think I see any in that video, but I assume there's tons of them in the general game. While we need to see the rest of the game to be sure, I imagine Hop's reused animation from Hau is gonna be a more generic one that other NPC may end up using. There's certainly some generic ones used in the demo like that walk everyone freaked out over.

Could probably break those down a bit more to make things clearer, but the point is that no game uses purely dynamic unique animations throughout. Especially RPGs. Despite being real time, there's a clear contrast in that video between the animations of the first 3 minutes and the animation of the latter 3 minutes.
