there are billions of Pokemon fans and many of them happened to love Venusaur, Blastoise and other starters of Gen2~ Gen 7 more than Charizard.
What did Gamefreak and TPC do about them?
Absolutely Nothing.
They kept caring about Charizardfags as if they are the only fans of the franchise, although partially to attract genwunners and nostalgiafags to buy their crap.
The reason why Charizard is still very popular is not that it's good or viable or whatever.
It's very popular because it's the only starter that gets over shoved and marketed everywhere, alone, without the others.
Venusaur and Blastoise being less popular are only because they never got advertised or promoted or slapped on every kid's face like Charizard.
The Charizard hate makes a lot of sense and blame no one but TPC and Gamefreak.
It happens also in different franchises. In Gundam fanbase, a lot of people hate Seed because Sunrise/Bandai keeps over shoving it everywhere to the point it became very redundant while ignoring many others.
