Fun fact, Noibat and Noivern were designed to be the Zubat/Golbat replacements for gen 5, but the team chose Woobat/Swoobat over them so their designs were shelved and reused for gen 6. That's right. Gamefreak literally thought Woobat and Swoobat were better than Noibat and Noivern.

well, woobat at least. swoobat is kind of underwhelming.
noivern is a better evolution but i like woobat more in general

Even though design wise I think Noibat and Noivern are more appealing, I fucking LOVE Woobat and Swoobat. They're so cute and even became absolute MVPs during my first Black run.

is it actually confirmed that gen 5 was meant to parallel gen 1? theyre my 2 favorite gens so i definitely see all the similarities but i figured it wasn't something they'd want to admit

I think Noibat line has pretty cool designs. But I never really use it in my team and Zubat line is meh to me. I actually use Woobat line as only flying pokemon in my Black team so yeah, Woobat is best batmon for me.

Both Gen 1 and Gen 5 have 150+ pokemon which other gens never did reach this number, and there are some Gen 5 pokemon lines that look like they parallel Gen 1 pokemon lines well.

Yes, though you'll have to trust my memory rather than a source. When interviewed about the similarities, Masuda or someone stated that they wanted to show how Pokémon could look different based on the region when based on the same animal, even when they didn't evolve from one another. Maybe this was a retroactive justification but it always stuck with me and let me appreciate the lack of evolution for those like Buffalont and Alolomola. It was said like a proto Alola forms I guess

Design-wise: Noibat. But it evolves at such a high level for such a weak mon. Personally, my favorite of the 3 overall, also considering evolutions and usage, is Zubat.

also voltorb/electrode is foongus/amoongus. mock pokeball pokemon
i'd say meowth/purrloin and psyduck/ducklett too, but they're not as similar other than the fact that theyre 2 stage cats/ducks

Not precisely gen 1, but I’ve always had a theory that the Eelektross line was intended to be a parallel to the Pikachu line. Both being 3 stage pure-Electric types, going from shit to okay, then evolving with a thunder stone to the last form. Ghetsis and Cynthia both use the final form, which lines up with Raichu/Pikachu being a rare mon.
