>>39505816I frankly don't care about the story. I care about the overall game design, and Gen VII made sure that you were stuck in line the entire time. It felt nothing like an adventure. It felt like they thought everyone playing the games was an idiot who has never touched a video game before. The world is so superficial and lacking in meaningful content and they just hold your hand the entire way through and refuse to let go.
I liked some of the story content, but the main reason I play Pokémon games is because they're games, and this was not a good game. I can like the designs and the characters and the music, but it means nothing if the game design prevents you from having fun. I can listen to the music on YouTube or download the OST. I can look at pictures online. But right now, there's nothing telling me I have to ever play these games again. I used to rag on Ruby and Sapphire for being rushed games, but I'd even rather play them than Gen VI, VII, and VIII. There's zero indication that Gen VIII is going to change for the better. In every interview, Game Freak has remained steadfast in how great they thinking Gen VI onward has been and how Ohmori is their new golden goose despite being responsible for so many disappointments. X and Y had potential, yes, but they needed more time. Sun and Moon had no potential because they were designed to be that way from the start.
I think that BW was a step down from Gen IV and marked the first major decline, even if B2W2 were great. I don't even dislike BW, I think they were pretty solid overall and still had ambition. But Gen VI is a decline in the sense that every release just disappoints more and more and there isn't a single good game between it all.
