It's not backwards laws. Teens generally have not gone to grip with their sexuality because they are literally transforming into adults. It's forgivable for teens to try and sex other teens, but an adult needs to be attracted and look for someone their own age.
That is why the age of consent is 18 because by the then, a person will have finished high school and be supposedly mentally mature to handle most of life's complexities. Teen bodies may be developed, but their brains need much to learn, therefore they can't give proper consent. That's why if someone the age of 19 gets hitched to someone 30 years old, and the relationship inevitably ends in failure due to age difference, you cannot blame the older person for taking advantage of the younger person because the younger person should have known better. Otherwise, adults lusting after underage teens is borderline predatory and worrisome.
