After XY and with this being the first time there haven't been gyms and the league is a new thing for the region I wouldn't be surprised if Ash wins it. I don't watch the anime but apparently there are no qualifications to enter the league this time so him winning would only be as much an achievement as his orange island championship. Also it would cause a raging shitstorm after XY and I can see the anime director doing it for that reason alone

Difference is, unlike Orange which was a filler while they waited on Game Freak to finish Gold/Silver, Alolan league is a canonical regional league.
