I may be retarded for jumping into such conclusions, but for someone who managed to make the Pokemon brand as big as they did, I'm sure they have their ways to make sure the "right calls" are always made. If they can't make it, they'll be sure to persuade other people into making them.
Greninja at the time was a pokemon that actually deserved it and even then, we're never really sure what goes behind the scenes, the tricks and ropes they try their best to seducing not only the awe-gasped audience every brand new gen with a handful of pokemon but any company/corporation they run against for their favor. To help merchandise, to make the best decisions, to make everything connect and also make sure everything goes "just like last time" especially given Greninja grew so well and made its spot way high in popularity rankings
And yes, I am delusional. I'm the stupid one just for wanting some damn change to happen that doesn't involve Game Freak's warrant in Smash over having one of the safest brands out there and always rushing games out the door to make merchandise and anime happen alongside it, forcing this continuous cycle of them always being in the front line over the rest. I hate to be the one called out as delusional while others just accept it just because the franchise is popular and as long it's popular, it's somehow okay, even though they're the ones trying to make sure you never escape their grasp. No matter where you are, Pokemon is literally everywhere.
