It's more like Mimikyu's cloth - not really part of the Pokémon in question which is presumably some kind of ghost using it hermit crab style.

No.
Nincada is just an empty shell, the ghost typing comes from the lack of anything alive in it and not because something moved into the shell.

Philosophically speaking, the entity that is Nincada, its soul if you will, becomes Ninjask upon evolution. Shedinja is an empty shell. It’s kinda like how the “real” Parasect is not the bug but the mushroom on the bug’s back. On the other hand, the Shedinja is a piece of the Nincada that has changed an manifested itself as a stronger Pokemon, perhaps the very definition of evolution. It’s kind of a partial evo, I guess, but Ninjask is the more conventional and therefore “truer” evo

It's an optional byproduct of Nincada evolving into Ninjask. You are always guaranteed to have a Ninjask by evolving Nincada, but not a Shedinja. The circumstances of how Shedinja comes about is such a special phenomenon in the Pokemon world that it should have a different classification from evolution.

How do you think Ninjask (the original Nincada) feels about Shedinja?
How would they interact if they were together on a trainer's team?

Shedinja is the true evolution.

Nincada uploads its soul, hence Ghost type, to Shedinja upon evolution to achieve immortality. Ninjask is left behind as a soulless reproductive biomachine to keep the species alive. Notably, it's fast, full of nutrients, and seems to other creatures to be the actual continuation of Nincada; the perfect disposable DECOY.

When Nincada evolves into Ninjask, it leaves behind an empty shell that then comes to life and becomes a pokémon of its own. Although Nincada's discarded shell is needed for the pokémon to exist, Shedinja is not Nincada turned into another pokémon.

It's kind of like how Mantyke's evolution requires a Remoraid but no one would consider Mantine to be an evolution of Remoraid.
