>>39522118Actually, Stomping Tantrum feels more like a "side-grade" to me than a straight up loss. Let me lay it out like this:
Earthquake:
-Does not make Contact
-Base Power 100
-Will deal double damage in certain conditions (i.e., the enemy used Dig before you used Earthquake)
-Power is halved during Grassy Terrain unless the enemy is underground
Stomping Tantrum:
-Does make Contact (so things like Flame Body or King's Shield are not your friend)
-BP is 97.5 after Tough Claws boost
-If one of your moves failed the previous turn, Stomping Tantrum's power doubles to 195 after the TC boost (holy fuck)
-Power is not lowered by Grassy Terrain
So basically it depends. On one hand, the power drop isn't too noticeable but you're not always going to want to be making contact with the enemy. Earthquake is better for beating, say, Ferrothorn than Tantrum is. However, Earthquake is totally fucked over by Grassy Terrain and isn't always able to break past somethings. Stomping Tantrum potentially could, has just 2.5 less power than EQ, and ignores Grassy Terrain: but now it's getting you hit by shit like Iron Barbs.
It's really up to what you want: either ignore contact but get totally fucked by any team with Bulu that uses the terrain to buff their allies or get the ability to OHKO that Tranny through the grassy terrain anyways but make contact against other things as a result. I'd personally pick Stomping Tantrum just because Grassy Terrain is such a pain in the ass and Metagross can kill Bulu easily, so you can get rid of both it and steamroll their counter, but at the end of the day
I fucking hate Metagross anyways so I'd rather see something else on the battle spot for fucking once
