>>39522603Voltorb and Muk are good to me. Seel is average, a little too basic, but Dewgong is cool. I think Pokemon in Gen 1 also had to be generic enough to fit certain archetypes and fill out a "base" set of monsters. Unique monsters relative to the series, but also standardized to the perceived necessity of certain monsters as to what an RPG should have.
Anons will say Grimer and Muk are the quintessential slime archetype from any other RPG etc. but I enjoy that the thought behind them, that they are created by pollution. Is a sludge monster necessarily creative? No, but it has it's place, is cool aesthetically, and would have been made in a later generation anyways.
I really like Voltorb, despite never having used him because he's a shitmon to me. I don't think he was intentionally created as the "mimic" Pokemon, but it's nice that they found a use for his sprite. Again, it's design is simple and easy, but that's not a bad thing. This is probably another one that would have been created in a later generation if not introduced in Gen 1.
