What's your take on single-stage Pokemon?

Are you okay with them, or do you think all Pokemon should belong to an evolutionary line? Do you think Megas or Gigantamax Forms are an acceptable alternative?

I think it depends on the Pokémon and a combination of stats and design. Things like Mawile could’ve used an actual evolution instead of a Mega, but Aerodactyl seemed fine as-is (even if its stats didn’t necessarily reflect it). As for Gigantamax, Alcremie’s Gmax form would’ve worked well as an actual evolution — then again, we don’t know whether or not it’ll have at least a prevo.

I hate them. I never use them. The only single-stage Pokemon I loved and used is Porygon during generation 1 and thankfully it ended up evolving. Single-stage mons are useless and take slots from the Pokedex. Game Freak should stop making tons of them every gen. This isn't Gen 2 anymore. The Alola disaster was enough, Galar should never have more than 2 single-stage mons.

It just grows a giant cake. That would be like saying Farfetch'd holding a leek should be an evolution of Farfetch'd not holding a leek.

It goes from whipped cream to a full fledged tiered cake, it's different enough. Some Pokemon change a lot, like idk, Magikarp to Gyarados, but others don't, like Teddiursa to Ursaring. How much a Pokemon changes when evolving is never constant, so to me whip cream to tiered cake is different enough to count as a proper evolution.

All of them would ideally have evolution chains in a theoretical end of life game, but leaving them for a time is fine.

As it stands it's a GOOD way to pander and give people something to look forward to. Something Game Freak sorely needs to learn.

I like getting my full team early so I dislike single stage Pokemon that only show up late-game. A lot of them are hard to imagine as being newborns as well. I think Dhelmise makes the least amount of sense and should've had a pre-evo that was just the seaweed.

Some of them are my absolute favorites, but not necessarily because of they have no other stages. A Pokemon can look fine and complete without needing a progression on its design and other times the Pokemon is reasonably powerful in the area it's found in without the need for a weaker pre-evolution.

It just bothers me when they make a Pokémon like Alcremie, that will probably be a single stage Pokémon, and then give it a gigantmax form.

Galar is going to have even more single-stage Pokemon than ever because Gigantamax is going to stand in for actual evolutions this time to help keep the total Pokedex count low.

I don't mind them but recently they've been making more single stage mons since there's so few added to begin with, so it's a way of expanding the amount of "lines" in a region. Unfortunately, it means there's extremely few 3 stage mons these days that aren't starters/pseudos/early bird/early bug. For Gen 7, the only others are Tsareena and the Cosmog lines, while Gen 6 only has Florges and Aegislash for ones that don't fill a "role".
