Bullshit. I don't care if the main games only make a small amount of the brand's merchandise. That doesn't mean there still isn't profit to be had from the mainline games that gamefreak is missing out on (since gamefreak doesn't make the merchandise, I'm guessing they aren't the ones profiting.) As a small indie company that has put out nothing but flops outside of pokemon, they'd be stupid if they let the series flounder, and if they even lose 5% of profits from people dropping out due to the lack of national dex, then that could easily pay for more employees

It's possible. GF needs to throw the towel first thought (meaning Nintendo would have to buy the 33% GF owns from the franchise), which I'm pretty sure they are not gonna let go so easily since the main pokemon games is still their main source of revenue

Pokemon is way too much work for Nintendo to develop in-house, most of their factions are already really busy with IP's like Mario and Zelda, for goodness' sake they had to outsource devs from Monolith to finish BotW, let alone take on a behemoth like Pokemon. It's also in part due to the fact that GF has the formula down and if something isn't broken, don't fix it. The likeliest outcome is they build a new team made up of former Gamefreak employees and EPD members, there's no way they would sacrifice the familiarity of the Pokemon games we've known for over 20 years by appointing an entirely new team to the series.
