So why did I see so many absolutely spit the dummy in rage, when it turned out Ash wasn't going to evolve his Rowlet and Hau was going to show up with a Dartrix (like the poster predicted) instead of being happy there were two reps from the same line like with Incineroar/Torracat then? Because owlfags didn't give a shit about Rowlet, it was a means to an end (winning the starterwars) and when that went tits up, they seethed instead of appreciating two reps from the line, like the sealfags and catfags did with their reps.

Evolution isn’t always objectively better in the anime like it is in the games. There’s an obvious power boost but there’s usually drawbacks and a well trained underevo can mop the floor with a poorly trained full evo.

Maybe not but this is a Pokémon who, for the vast majority of this series has been used as a repeated joke where it’s main trait was that it always falls asleep even in the middle of battle. You don’t have the final evolution lose to a joke Pokemon and not have it be full cringe

Rowlet not evolving is what the audience wanted though. It's extremely popular, the Everstone was just fanservice.

Fans love Rowlet because unlike past comic relief Pokemon, it's also a powerful battler.
