Then again, he doesn't get Floatzel if he starts with Piplup, which this Barry did. Conversations seem to imply that each Trainer is in their post-game. There doesn't seem to be any mentions of a timeline though. Koga is an Elite Four member, Brock and Blue/Green are in their HGSS designs, Misty's in her LGPE design, Erika and Blaine are in their FRLG designs, etc.
