But it is definitely a step I like to see being finally taken, let's be painfully honest, the 3D world in XY and Alola is very basic, it doesn't really have the feeling of a vast world. Sword Shield is doing something more akin to what franchises like Zelda and others have started doing since the N64, it is raising the previous standards of the franchise.
I don't see how someone can see that as anything other than a positive. "Oh the tree is ugly" doesn't change the fact that we finally have a city that looks like a true location instead of a tileset or a frankestein-esque 3D compromise like the 3DS games.
The new Fire Emblem game has even worse graphical output than Sword Shield, to the point where it has characters mouths disappear at times when I'm playing it due to how horribly pixely the resolution is. Lots of ugly textures. Lots of reused animations between characters that don't even have the same personality. Yet it is also taking steps in presentation that do something more formidable than the 3DS games did. I like to see that, it still interests me even if I have to admit both games look like shit.
