Hallway simulators aren't great.
Open world would be a death sentence for Pokemon given how slack Game Freak is.
Both sides are bad options and we should strive for the middle ground that you guys pretend doesn't exist.

If the feature actively detracts from the quality of the game then removing it is good.
If the feature is irrelevant and time can be spent better developing something else then removing it is good.

Candy system is best. Gen1 and 2 system of "just kill everything and try to max all stats" is easier to accomplish because just killing shit by leveling also contributes to ev in gsc.
