Well yeah, DP is the slowest and clunkiest game by far in terms of battles, movement, saving etc. it just feels horrible to play compared to other games in the series

DP is what I'll call actively slow, your actions take a long time. SM is what I'll call passively slow, cutscenes and such eat up time.

It really doesn’t matter they’re the best games in the series. In games where people do thousands of SRs for shinies and exploration is supposed to be key, waiting a couple seconds for a lv 100 Blissey’s HP to drop is not a big deal. Best anime gen, too

Doesn't D/P actually have manips when compared to XY which should be a signifigant time save but not to regular players, since you get a starter with good IVs/Nature and then furthermore have damage calcs to optimise fights + potentially shit like no encounter manip.
But yeah SM is weighed down by cutscenes which whilst they do make the game slow they don't feel slow in the same way D/P is.

I mean isn't D/P sped up by getting choice specs on the Empoleon though but I guess Lucario getting SD is nice. I don't really know XYs route, I watched a couple of runs like 4-5 years ago but it has all gone now.

Imagine getting the same criticism Sun and Moon get without even having Gen 7's obnoxious unskippable cutscenes. I played Diamond again recently to see if the battle speed was improved in Platinum and HG/SS and it really was, mainly in the time between a hit landing and the health bar beginning to drain.

Pokemon games were all slow as molasses until gen 5 and gen 4 is the worst offender. Speedrun times don't show how slow virtually every action in these games is and don't factor in the amount of content you actually have to get through to beat the game.

It is, go play it. Speedrun doesn‘t say anything. Either way xy has more cutscenes and more dialogues compared to dp and the difference is 2 min. Gen4 is so stupidly slow.
