Okay, dumb idea here, but what if the reason Psychic is good against Poison is literally just

Like, it's retarded cause Fire and Water have just as much range usually, but these images seem to be giving the vibe that the reason the Psychic si winning is cause they can fuck with the poison without touching or going near it.

I like this, it's better than most other explanations I've seen. I'd say it's either that, or they're going for a "Psychic = Intelligence and the more intelligent fighter figured out how to cure the poison" kind of thing, considering that psychic is super effective against poison but poison is just neutral offensively against psychic.

If that were the case, I always thought that Psychic should resist Poison. Sure, maybe the smart Pokemon can dispel the toxins in its own body, but how exactly would that translate to effective attacks against Poison-type Pokemon?

Unless the poison in a Poison-type is like a sort of life-essence (sort of like blood) and the Psychic-type can remotely alter the poison in the opposing Pokemon's body to something else, causing the Poison-type's body to not be able to function correctly. I never understood how you could turn a creature's toxins against itself, but maybe if you were able to alter the substance in their body to something else entirely.
