Keep in mind this isn't "the sole gym theme". When Serebii was playing the game you could hear the song become another song during the dynamax portion and during the part where their HP got low.

It seems like the gym battles have a kind of interactive set of music that changes, kind of like BW's final round theme during gyms;

I hate this trend of techno music in pokemon, mostly because half of the time it's not even done well. The XY Gym leader theme and E4 theme come to mind (Although there are good instances like the Kalos Power Plant). But compared to this, they actually sound good. This song is generic, has no melody, no build up, no pay off and is just a shitty loop of what could otherwise be a completely unrelated shitty EDM track. I guess it's fitting for the gyms in this gen as they're treated as more of a sport and whatever, but this still sounds bad

Take that back, it's amazing (especially the anime rendition). It's a very focused and serious track that sets you in the right mood for a gym battle, even moreso than the RSE one, which sounds more happy and less threatening/serious. It and BW's are the most fitting gym leader battle themes imo

The XY Gym leader theme, E4 theme and Power Plant theme are all composed by Shota Kageyama. He's a pretty shit composer over all, ruining the HGSS and BW soundtracks, but he has a lot of gems in the XY soundtrack which was mostly done by him. Still, his work is pretty uninteresting most of the time and ranks very low on the list of pokemon composers
