Because the games are just made so you say "oh look that pokemon looks nice/cute/fuckable, I a gonna buy a plush/keychain/socks etc". That's why they stopped giving a shit making them okaish.

Following Pokémon is just "wow it follow me how cool xD" and then forget it after 5 seconds. We can get both things, but the thing we should ask for is for actual balance.
