Kalos was the breaking point though. The trailer for the first post-league episode got taken down because it got too many dislikes, and members of the staff voiced their distaste for having Ash lose. One guy even said that they've let down the children. Having Ash lose too many leagues at this point could be too risky.

Only because so far every round had at least one person with only one pokémon. Now that James, Hau, Sophocles and Lana are out, the one with the lowest number of pokémon is Kiawe, with three, so the next rounds might be 3v3.

Ash is going to use Pikachu against Gladion’s Silvally. Episode 129 teased that both Pokemon are going to be battling each other. Besides, Pikachu has to be the one to win Ash a league, and Ash’s Lycanroc would be the perfect mon to use against Guzma since Kukui gave him to Ash.

I’m gonna be done with anime if SM Ash out of all iterations of Ash wins. I’m dead fucking serious. It will feel like an even bigger asspull than his lose in XY/Z. SM Ash was designed to just be a semi-reboot, a more relaxed and in-experienced Ash. And with most of the characters not being Anime-Exclusive, the stakes would be lowered, cause of how Ash has barely developed any rivalry with these characters, unlike Alain or Shota (Sawyer). It would feel like they only did it after the Backlash of Kalos, a literal, hollow, empty, victory. One that might make you say, “Was it truly worth it?”

Fucking this. SM Ash is the most appropiate of all seasons... to actually LOSE the league. He feels like a joke character so I can see him just losing and laughing it out saying he needs to learn more since he feels like a novice.

I don't know where you got this idea from. He's explicitly a post-Kalos Ash who's retained all of his knowledge and experience.

He's the same character, just sillier to fit the wackier tone.

The problem really stems because because it's screwed whether he wins or loses.
He wins, that just sends the message that he can only win in leagues where trainers are bad. He loses, then that means he's a worse shitter than some isolated islands' inhabitants. It was how they set up the league that basically has Ash lose regardless whether he comes out on top or not.

It's entirely possible that Gladion doesn't use Zoroark in the league at all, or at least not again Ash, and that it's just there for the post-league Mohn arc.

Ash has one Z-Crystal he hasn't mastered yet (Steelium Z) and one he hasn't used in a battle yet (Firium Z)

He perfects Corkscrew Crash against Guzma and wins. Then against Gladion, he gets a last-minute evolution ex machina from Torracat into Incineroar and wins with an Inferno Overdrive.

The majority of people who don't want Ash to win believes that since this league is all 1-on-1 and accepted everyone as participants, Ash winning here wouldn't make a difference in the large run. This isn't a true league, per se. Leagues have full battles and some sort of requirement based on traveling around the region and defeating powerful gate opponents.
