Every time I tried to deviate from the path and explore there'd be something preventing me from doing so.
Something I noted when playing is that they have these gates blocking your path with someone in front telling you that you can't pass until you have a new z-crystal. In one instance I managed to gain the specific z-crystal to move on to the next area so the gate opened and then I was given a new page rider, Mudsdale, to traverse terrain I otherwise wouldn't be capable of doing on foot. So what was the point of the gate blocking the road when they could have just used the rocky terrain and my needing a new page rider to get past? It's like they gave up on being somewhat subtle about blocking progression. It's so lazy.
