Also expanding the region, it's fucking stupid they drew a volcano on the cinnabar island map but it's impossible to get to and cinnabar is a fucking perfectly shaped square in the middle of the ocean (on top of having no postgame like the Sevii Islands)

Actually fucking remake the map so that it's up to current gen standards? No seriously there is no reason for grid shit maps anymore. Kanto has been featured in the games four times before, the least they could've done was redo the world in SM's style

please, it's not like you have to have everything the same, 1:1. People are fine with it in the MMO, and while it's inspired by the original layout, it's the layout only. Not that one town is exactly 20 steps away from another.

Actually, before we knew that not all Pokemon were coming back, people were pretty broadly losing their shit about the graphics.

On the front of not reusing models in particular, I wonder if gen 1 monsters could be an exception due to having been brought in from Let's Go? There've been other Pokemon from further generations we've seen in battle. Have there been any signs of variation in those?

They wanted to make a mainline Pokemon game that'd operate as an entry point for new players, lapsed fans from the initial phase of Pokemania, and the swathes of Pokemon Go players who otherwise have limited experience with games.

A Yellow remake satiates many of those terms inherently by being the initial Gen, having the roster most people recognize whether they be Go players or otherwise, and being the most mechanically basic in the series. New, controlled camera angles add little to nothing. They seem to have been quite particular about being faithful to the layout and certain aesthetic aspects like ledge shape and uniform grass structure, which you don't have to like.

It isn't that they aren't allowed. They reimagined certain aspects of the narrative and gameplay. They didn't pursue those changes in terms of the layout, and didn't promise them either.

The only reason they were so "faithful" was because it allowed them to be as lazy as possible with the game. No reason they couldn't have expanded on routes and dungeons in ways that would allow for better exploration and maybe even controlled cameras.
No excuse for rehashing a GB map 1:1 in 2018 other than that wanted to make a cheap, lazy product.

Just before the comma, in the exact same sentence you quoted from, I said "before we knew that not all Pokemon were coming back", which is something we learned days before the interview you're supposedly referencing.

The time period from the reveal of the games up to the famitsu interview including the direct about a week preceeding the treehouse presentation had people complaining about the graphics, and not because of any unfulfilled promises so far as I know.

1:1 remakes are fine, but you have to realize it's WAY easier to make those kind of remakes, than remakes that are basically reimaginings. If they save a ton of effort by just taking a 3d map tiler and having an intern paste it down while looking at gameboy maps, then there better be a ton of effort put into other aspects of the game as a result. Or give it a budget price.

Wait this can't be right, Masuda specifically told us that Sword Shield started development before GO came out, while LET'S GO started after GO, which is why LET'S GO has features sahred with GO that Sword Shield lacks.

It's possible, and probable, that while conceptualization and planning for Sword Shield started before Go came out, they only started hard development later. Sun and Moon we know had an entire 12 months timeframe of initial development that was focused on planning and concept and artwork before they did the actual game.
