What is your favorite pokemon archetype(e.g. Animalmon, Kaijumon etc.), and your favorite pokemon from that archetype? For me, it's Weirdmons/Objectmons, because they're so fascinating to discover in the wild, especially in caves and ancient places. My favorite Weirdmon are the Klink Evo-line.

the pokemon that are basically just regular animals. pidgey, seaking, venomoth, seel, noctowl etc

you see much less of this to the point of nonexistence as you go up gens

But I always thought that the problem with new gens IS that they most Pokémon are “literally my mom’s animal”. We got literally a diving bell spider, literally a donkey and claysdale horse, literally a sardine, literally a toucan, literally a orchid mantis. It’s ambiguous stuff that we don’t get nowadays

Feral mons. The ones that just look like wild beasts. This is pretty much the majority of them but the designs in Gen 7 and especially Gen 8 are too humanoid or toothless to really scratch that itch.

Nah. Gen 1 had plenty of animalmons.
Butterfree, Beedrill, Pidgey, Rattata, Squirtle, Charmander, Geodude, Zubat, Horsea, Tauros, Rhyhorn.
I think these kind of designs are important for Pokemon.

Things that turn into three of the same thing.

Magneton, Diglett, Metagross line (which is kind of several Bedlums joining together). Not a fan of Vanilluxe though.

I am completely with you mate. I love the object mons. They are just so interesting to watch move, and in some ways are more natural than the hords of random animals.
The ones that are old mystical objects in particular are favorites. I fucking love Solrock.

I love Pokemon that are inspired by obscure real life animals/folklore/legends. The kinds where you'd have to look up their inspirations to realize what they're even supposed to be, to appreciate the reference that the Pokemon embodies, and coming away with new knowledge of a fascinating real life creature or hidden corner of human culture that you never knew about before.
