gen 4 and 5 follow this trend
gen 6 was 3d and not much else but took feature away from the 2nd wave of games
gen 7 was completely half assed
honestly, besides the classics in gen 1 and gen 2 only emerald, platinum, HGSS, and BW2 are worth considering as solid games and and a replay
also gen 6 and 7 introduced unnecessary battle mechanics instead of refining what was there, and now they are basically getting rid of that for something more manageable
