There's a lot of things Crystal Clear does that nobody else comes close to, and I really hope the source gets released so people can start introducing them

But there's some features other romhacks have that CC needs, particularly reusable TMs.

What I'd really like to see is someone come up with an expanded Time Machine so that we can have a game with cross-gen evos and moves, but still maintain compatibility with the vanilla games.

Stop being a bitch. You can skip most wild encounters or just catch a fucking Raticate (catch rate is high) after a couple of balls. I went from Kanto to Johto at the start of the game because my Voltorb would be shit against Brock.

Most areas are scaled down anyway, only a few aren't.

Polished Crystal has rematching Gym leaders. All hacks that dont change the header are compatible with stadium. Both Red++ and Polished Crystal are better ways to re experience the games, and your precious Crystal Clear USES code and graphics from both of those hacks plus many more, like Prism and any other open source projects ShockSlayer can get his hands on. But we cant have the source for his hack.

You DO know the increased difficulty in running from higher level Pokemon? You also know rebels don't work if your first party member's level is lower than the wild encounter. It also makes it impossible to grind and level up your Pokemon by any means except the gym leader rematches. You make it sound so easy, how did you handle it?

NES games give you a path and if you go off and find high levels, they act as a warning that you were going the wrong way. Crystal Clear on the other hand encourages people to go wherever they please but at the same time punishes players for taking its suggestion.

It's not that bad. It has problems but it's worth a play.

However theres a lot of behind the scenes drama involving the developer and his fanbase that goes nuts if you say anything negative about it. He also runs a Patreon for his rom hack while using code and graphics from other open source hacks but refuses to release the source for his own hack. He's burned a lot of bridges in the rom hacking community and doesnt listen because he has fans who will defend him no matter what.

Long story short: Art is good, artist is not a good person.

CC has great features in it so it's not really bad.
CC's problem is that it's Crystal without the roadblocks and story. That should be a good thing but when you play it you realize there isn't anything to do. There's no sidequests or anything like that to replace them, it's just Crystal at its most stripped form. All you do is chase gym badges. There's no real feeling progression. You fight gyms, then you autistically grind off gym rematches, then you fight the next gym, until you reach the League full of OCs. There's some story stuff to get Legendaries but that's it.
