The movie was seriously boring. They could have easily done a slice of life with some drama but nop just put some Nickelodeon plot and wrap it up with more shit to make sure no one will care to watch twice

Even then, I still think it's surprising it couldn't even climb to the $600 mil mark. Aquaman, a character that has been considered a joke for decades who is part of a movie franchise that people have so little faith in, the big supposed blockbuster (Justice League) severely underperformed, managed to do better than Pikachu Reynolds.

I don't want to rag on the guy but you really do need to have an attractive lead if you want to do well in foreign countries. Only the US, Canada, and UK are self-loathing enough to feel good about going to watch ugly people pretend to not be ugly. For Nintendo, for the TPC, or for Legendary Entertainment as it considered a success. They went cheap on this movie I mean the fucking concept artists were hired off of fucking Deviantart and tumblr no word of a lie, their idea of an advertising campaign was a teaser, a 3 minute trailer and half a dozen 1 page magazine inserts. Barely any billboards, or mcdonalds placemats or whatnot. They made a few hundred million dolalr profit easy so I'd hardly call the movie a failure. Except in plot like what the fuck was Howard's endgame after turing everybody into pokemon? Start a Rescue Team... shit the sequel is PMD.

If it had the Disney brand, sure. Honestly the two leads were too old. I know they were trying to go for the "man I'm a young 20-something with nostalgia of Pokemon"audience. I would have went with a fun focused adventure with little suspense.
