Professor Oak challenge

Have any of you anons done the professor oak challenge?

I'm 7 hours in to sapphire, 20 mons registered, 0 badges thus far.
Why the FUCK is surskit such a shitty pokemon?

Just in case some of you don't know what it is, it's a challenge run in which you fill the pokedex as much as you can using a single copy of the game, evolving and catching as many pokemon as possible before getting each badge.

so in pokemon gen 1, for example, you'd need to catch/evolve, before beating brock:
>your starter to its final form if R/B
>pidgey/pidgeotto/pidgeot
>nidoran/nidorina/nidorino
>caterpie/metapod/butterfree
>weedle/kakuna/beedrill
>mankey/primape if yellow
>pikachu
>rattata/raticate
>spearow/fearow

Maybe if the wild pokemon levels scaled. I can't find any fun in train a pokemon until level 36 that won't obey me by killing wild pokemon with levels 2-8.
