Circled are repurposed regular evolutions and this is another reason for why we live in the worst timeline and Gen VI was an almost miscarriage.

I think that Rayquaza, Gardevoir, Heracross, Swampert, Gengar and Blaziken are good examples of what a mega should be: It expands on the original pokémon's concept without feeling forced or totally out of place.
Then you have Charizard, Blastoise, Absol, Tyranitar and Ampharos. These evolutions don't make any fucking sense design-wise and just feel forced and overdesigned
