Playing through emerald, I wanted an XP sponge so I didn't overlevel my starter before I caught my second mon, so I caught a wurmple. I ended up getting really attached to him becuase I couldn't stop thinking he was going to feel abandoned when I boxed him for the second mon (which was going to be nincada). I decided I would help him by ltraining him until he evolved, then releasing him, ensuring he had a much greater chance of surviving in the wild. Then, the "pokemon came back, was it worried about you" thing popped up, and I decided if he wanted to stay, I was going to take him all the way to the league. He's been an essential part of my team ever since. I always overlooked the regional bugs as mons I like, but can never use because they're so shit tier. This little guy cured me of that.
