I'm predicting with the backlash of Sword, and Shield versions changes. Game freak will reboot generation four, to help pad losses; and get some nostalgia sales.

Also, to make up for the inevitable loss of sales. from those who stop using the pokebank eventually. Seeing that it's not compatible with generation 8.

There is a small pattern that was noted, when they release remakes.

>Fire red/leaf green came out 8 years after gen one's initial release.

>heart gold/soul silver came out 10 years after gen two

>12 years after gen 3, we got Alpha sapphire/ omega ruby

Diamond/Pearl dropped almost 14 years ago. It's been two handheld iterations since it's release. "3DS" and "Switch"

I'm guessing if they do drop a Diamond Pearl remake it would be sometime in late 2020 if the pattern continues.

Unless Game Freak has become self-aware, and is trying to buck all trends they do. I predict strongly that a generation four remake is around the corner.
