They obviously realize this will affect sales, even by the smallest margin, so I wonder if they’ll make one more announcement addressing this whole thing.

It's in Gamefreak's best interest to try their hardest to condition the audience into accept the "not every pokemon in everygame" situation going forward.

Can you imagine when Nintendo makes an -actualy powerful- console and they have to upgrade models again? They'd have to be doing 1300+ models or more now. No fucking company wants that.

The "high quality animations" thing was always bullshit, they're just realizing how their old format is going to be fucking demonic to deal with everytime they want to do a graphic upgrade or a new feature that requires new animations.

They are honestly fortunate that Nintendo itself is wary of making big technological and budget jumps, the Switch's overall graphical baseline is significantly weaker than all other machines out right now, so they got scott free for atleast another region. Maybe a couple more if Nintendo decides to make a SWITCH 2 instead of another home console. But all in all GF should've probably figured "we have a franchise that features a gigantic group of monsters that increases 100 more every game. Let's be wary of evolving to 3D models since that will make our job hell for the rest of our life".

It makes every sense to do it now. Because the jump from handheld to console is an excuse they can use to fool normies. Clearly the miscalculated the landing since nowadays youtubers that stir shit and do analysis exist and GF was too dumb to forget it, but it's easy to see why they chose this gen to do this.

It's a band-aid that serves their purposes the fastest possible it is pulled. It gives them time to get people used to the idea, it gives them time to fully implement the Pokemon Home app which is a big part of the plan. It all makes sense if you look at it from the perspective of a 45 year old japanese man with not much internet experience.

It was their fault for falling for the 3D meme. Many would be happy with sprites. Some of the 2D games like terrarria and stardew valley are some of the highest grossing games of all time and highest rated and they are on consoles.
On high end consoles you can make 100k sprites easily, have 10 regions, have open world, etc whatever you want. 3D pokemon is garbage.

It was squarely Nintendo's fault. They re-used ageing hardware chips instead of writing them off as a loss and buying newer tech for the 3DS. Game Freak didn't make the turkey that the 3DS was, just barely more powerful than its predecessor.

It's going on 3 gens in a row now of not having transfers at launch. Pre-bank metas are fun and let some Pokemon shine that would otherwise drop into NU a month after.

Nobody that has played YW4 has called it well-made and brimming with content, you're either delusional or pretending to be a YW fan to try and shit on Gamefreak.

Game so far has the smallest world map of the franchise yet, graphics are just as weak as Sword Shield with the added bonus of much more diverse locations, they're only "patching in monsters" because the number of monsters in the game at this point is abysmal.

There is a reason sales have been awful so far, The game is not good. They fucked up.

They said their main reason was there's too many pokemon. Which means they knew the number of pokemon would continue growing. Thus they decided to condition people now to accept that all pokemon won't be included going forward. And they decided to use a new gen on a new very popular console to do it because they figured thst was enough to help sales.

Basically their main reason for cutting pokemon isn't for animations. They cut pokemon because they will have less work to do going forward. They're knowingly cutting stuff their consumers want and like to make it easier on themselves.

It does not take extra effort to just use the previous working models and animations for Pokemon not spruced up for the new gen. They've done it before with sprites. I think it's not unreasonable that the backlash has made them decide to do that moving forward.
