I've been doing a warer mono playthrough of emerald, and the whole game is soulful. A lot of the pokemon feel like exotic creatures you'd see on vacation to a tropical place, and the weird ways to get the regis and feebas really harken back to the "my uncle works for nintendo" myths surrounding pokemon around the original "pokemania" days.

Feebas is extremely common in the spots it does show up in and you can grind it relatively quickly.

Meanwhile with Munchlax you can wait 100 hours for trees and still never get it.

Yeah, I guess the 50% rate does help. Chalk it up to GF in giving Munchlax a 1% appearance rate for no other reason but sadism. I'm just not a fan of secret ID mechanics in general.

If I had to guess, it's because it was a rare spawn in a single location in the game that you more than likely exhausted the other mons you could find a few floors prior.
It didn't help that literally no trainers used Chimeco until post-game related things so the only way you knew it existed was if you had a guide or something.
I could be remembering the bullshit wrong, it's been too long since I played Sapphire, and I never bothered to get it even after learning where it was.

What about the safari zone rare encounters?
I like them. Made Pokemon like Kanga, Chansey, Tauros and Scyther/Pinsir feel super rare.

It's still a better way to get a mythical than "Someone send this to you !".
Also, getting it at level 15 made it actually usable ingame, which is nice.

Believe me I wish there was in-game story for mythicals again, but that doesn't change the fact that limited time events are fucking cancer. Mythicals need to be locked behind difficult in-game tasks like completing the Pokedex or finishing contests
