In terms of content it definitely has - Gen 4.

Everything since has just removed shit and made it so low IQ (not ages) could play.

Almost this. I'd just add that DP sucked and Emerald was good enough that it would have been part of the peak as well if DP hadn't come out between it and Platinum.

This. There's a reason why Kanto pandering exists and it's because GameFreak wants Pokemon fever to be a thing again. Pokemon GO is the closest it has ever gotten to ever reclaiming that, and GameFreak is probably pissed that it wasn't a mainline game that did it.

Peaked in gen 3, but 4 and 5 were still really good.

Gen. III had a nice variety beyond the core RSE trio, yet some questionable changes of direction. Gen. II has my fav individual game, though.
