The first starter I ever remember getting and evolving all the way was a female Cyndaquil in Pokémon Crystal
I used to just wander around and battle with it because I was a stupid baby and I got it to like level 70 before I finally got Pokémon Sapphire from my cousin who “was too old for Pokémon” and learned how to read
It was pretty badass
