GF has always done a shitty business model in hoping that every game feels unique.
Generation I is the original. We will regard it as the base of everything else.
It's a barebone region. No natural mighty legendary like Rayquaza or Dialga. It does, however have Mewtwo, a genetically enhanced Mew.
Generation II's unique feature is that it has two region in one game.
Generation III copies Generation I. That's the unique feature. Hoenn is pretty much Kanto Version 2, except now Legendary Pokemon is the main focus.
Generation IV has no unique feature. It's the culmination of everything great put together in Platinum and HGSS.
Generation V has a sequel instead of a third version, and that very sequel is yet another culmination of almost everything great about the series so far, with the only downside being graphics (It's the Ds era, give it a break) and maybe a beloved feature of walking Pokemon not returning.
Generation VI is where they start experimenting with "one gimmick per generation"
>Mega EvolutionGen VII
>Z-MovesGen VIII
>Dynamax and GigantamaxYou thought Dynamax will last when we get Gen IX? Think again.
