Storm and Mineral Badges were smooth. I got lucky in the Fog Badge with the Gengar missing its first hypnosis then spamming mud slap got him to miss the rest. Think I'm going to fuck with the in game time to get Eevee to evolve into Umbreon at level 30.

Did you know that in gen 1, the AI literally, provably cheats? And not in the sense where you can just write it off as bad luck or really advanced AI. It actually plays by different rules than the player.
Enemies choose their move when their turn comes around, as opposed to the top of the round like you do.
This isn't as obvious unless you're facing a trainer who uses items, in which case they can use their item after you attack despite items being top priority.
Just thought that was a fun and relevant fact.

Ruby is done. Everything went pretty much exactly as planned, except for Metagross. I got some lucky misses on its Meteor Mash, so Mummy was able to burn it without getting hit. But then, it crit me with Psychic...on the turn I used Curse. So Dusclops killed itself. That Curse was vital to killing it before Steven healed it, though, so...it worked out?
Anyway, Sapphire is next. I'm gonna pick Mudkip.

Just encountered the villain team for the first time, called the Team Elders. Only fought a bunch of grunts, no trouble.

I then ventured into an art museum full of Smeargle trainers. I nearly lost every one of my Pokemon at some point in there. Fucking wild move coverage they had.

Icicle Badge. That was a tough fucking gym since my Lucario died (also Lumineon RIP), and I didn't realize how little my team could do against ice types. Thankfully, that shouldn't be much of a problem in the future. What saved me from wiping was Anastasia's Reflect/Sub (for the medicham bulk up spam and bulky af abomasnow) and Nikita's new metronome item.

I lost Yusuke to this Shaman who offered to heal my Pokemon if I beat him, was gonna be useful since there was tall grass right next to him, meaning easy grinding, but his Absol one shot me. RIP Yusuke.

I defeated the second gym leader, Aria. Her Flying types were super easy thanks to Ryuji who solo'd the whole gym, with the exception of Aria's Gligar, who Haru beat with some bubbles.

Unto the ice cave, hopefully I catch something cool and not a Zubat or something.

Because I had absolutely nothing better to do, I decided to do my first Nuzlocke in a long time, and since I was in a gen 3 mood, I decided to go with Leafgreen. So far:

Main Rules:
1) If a Pokemon faints, you must release it from a PC. No reviving, it's dead and gone.
2) You can only capture the first pokemon encountered in an area. If you accidentally knock it out, it flees, etc., tough shit, you get nothing from that area.
3) Every capture gets a nickname.
4) No using legendaries, ever (unless forced by story like White/ Black)

Optional rules:
- Whatever you want to do to increase challenge/ fun.
- No using poke centers to heal, only items
- No items in battle
- No duplicate mons (if you have a pidgey from route 1, then your first encounter in route 16 is a pigeotto, skip it and go next encounter)
- Again, whatever you want to do for more fun

Gen 3 is in my rear view and it is on to Gen 4, which I have also never played before. First impression I am getting is that there are an awful lot of water pokemon running around.

I am only having someone look up the next gym leader's pokemon levels so that I do not over level. So for example, I was told that the next gym has a level 22 ace. So gonna be grinding up for a bit.

Enjoying the return of the day/night cycle. Also it seems the physical/special split has arrived which is cool.

Goddammit, I really fucked up here.

Everything was going so well too. I went onto Route 3 to take care of the trainers there and grinding up Harvest into a Butterfree, catching Pet Shop in the process. Then I grinded both Pet Shop and Survivor up to level 10 and decided to hit up Mt. Moon

Mt. Moon was a complete breeze, though Pet Shop did accidentally knock out the Zubat I was planning on capturing. But hey, at least Green Day evolved and began to kick ass immediately.

I managed to get out just fine and made it to Cerulean City, catching a Sandshrew in the nearby grass just in case and deciding to head up north to grind on Nugget Bridge.

And this is where I fucked up royally. Everyone but Green Day was severely underleveled and I knew I should have grinded everyone up to speed, but I got cocky and impatient and went for it anyways.

Dicklip started with Pidgeotto, which I managed to kill with Ratt, but not before it Tackled me and brought me dangerously low. He sent out Rattata next and I was forced to go to Green Day and put it to sleep, wittling it down. But before I could finish it off, he went Charmander. I knew at this point that I needed Ratt to kill this, but it was far too low to take a hit, so I needed to heal it up. But to do that, I would need to sack something. Ultimately, I had to sack Survivor to heal up Ratt, and Ratt did indeed take both it and Abra out. Last up was his own Rattata, which was still asleep. I got cocky and decided to attack it instead of healing, thinking it would stay asleep.

It didn't, and it killed Ratt, who was my ace.

I'm fucking devastated. I have to go back and grind everyone up to speed, but I'm not sure up to what level. Should I go up to 17 for everyone? Or push higher and go for 20? Should I knock out the surrounding routes or go for the nearby grass?

That's what I'm thinking. I'm grinding up everyone to level 17 except maybe Spice Girl, since its' level up movepool is absolute SHIT.

I've been spoiled by newer generations and forgot that gen 3 can actually be pretty tough. Same thing happened in my normal Emerald playthrough where I ended up pretty goddamn underleveled by the end of the game even after fighting almost every trainer I could.

Watchog missed two hypnosis in a row, and it was easy sailing with Madame and her Razor Shell. Two gyms down.

The earlier gens are indeed brutal man. Between the shitty movepools, one time use TM's, and being forced to carry around HM slaves the games can get pretty tough.

You got this great mon with good moves, you put your best TMs on it, and then you get some random crit and it dies, forcing you to use a shitty mon that doesn't even learn a move of its type, such as your Sandshrew.

You got this though, just gotta keep grinding.

I thought Vivillion was a Gen 5 Pokemon, and knew how "overpowered" its Infestation fell years back. Big relief.

This is where I've decided to leave off tonight

Following the loss of both Survivor and Ratt, I decided to go into the nearby grass and grind up Harvest and Pet Shop to level 17 then tackle the Nugget Bridge.

Everything goes a lot better than expected, but I'm still nowhere near ready to take on Misty.

So I decide to take a detour and tackle the routes surrounding Vermilion City, both to get some extra grinding in and hopefully catch a Diglett, who will come in handy for both Surge and my rival.

After cleaning house in and around Vermilion City, I decide to head back to Cerulean and finally take on Misty's gym. Green Day basically makes the entire gym her bitch, one-shotting everything except Misty's Starmie, who went down in two Razor Leafs anyways.

Honestly, I feel like things are looking up. I don't feel like I'm constantly underleveled, everyone who's up to level is consistently pulling their weight, and in general I feel prepared for what's up ahead.

Also this run has rekindled my love for Fearow. Seriously, it's an absolute fucking beast.

On that note, have any of you ever had that Pokemon that exceeded your expectations in a run? Conversely, have you ever had one that let you down horribly?

Banette was awesome and is my current favorite Ghost pokemon. I was new to Gen 3 and it really stuck out to me along with Walrein's insane bulk.
As far a disappointments go, I raised a Pinser into the level 60s in Silver. Maybe I rolled one with bad stats but it could not hit for shit and seemed to be mad of glass. It pissed me off so much that I eventually threw it in a box and replaced it with Tyranitar. Fucking worthless.

Christ, you were willing to put up with that much grinding out of sheer spite for this thing?

Also I've always wanted to use both Banette and Walrein in a playthrough, but I've never had room for them. Even in this last playthrough of Emerald, where I planned on getting one just for Drake, I ended up just getting a Spheal as an HM slave.

I did a run of Crystal when it came out on virtual console. I got an actual, legitimate first encounter Dunsparce in Dark Cave. He (Asmodeus) was a total bro. He swept Falkner and Whitney, and he propped me up with his tanking skills against Lance after I lost my Feraligatr to Bruno. Asmodeus stuck with me until I fought Blue, where some bad planning led my Sunflora to set up Sunny Day right before Arcanine came out. I sent in Asmodeus to tank, but Arcanine got a crit on one of its flamethrowers before the sun ran out. Good night, sweet prince.

The entire Rocket storyline is taken care of, every mainland trainer (that isn't connected to a gym) is defeated, and now the boss rush begins, beginning with Koga who was easily defeated by Oh My Gosh
Also took my time to EV train Catatonic fully in Attack, figured he would need it to be able to safely KO the Psychic types that are coming up, and to be honest it was kinda fun! Found out the perfect spot to do it was in Fuchsia, if you fish with the Super Rod you have a 99% chance to get something that yields an Attack EV (40% Goldeen, 40% Seaking and 19% Gyarados), so I just kicked back and watched some videos while murdering the resident marine life of the Fishing Guru's backyard pond

A lot of early gen pokemon have empty movepools. I used Swift on Pidgeotto in Crystal because it's stuck with 40 Bp moves until it evolves. But I wouldn't bother buying a Flamethrower TM for a Charmeleon.

Picking up where I left off yesterday, I took care of the S.S Anne rather easily, with Pet Shop sweeping Dicklip thanks to a combination of X items and Fury Attack.

With that out of the way, I made my way through the 3rd gym and fought Lt. Surge. While I thought Oasis would end up being the star of the show, his frailty combined with Surge's Pikachu and Raichu having priority meant that he wasn't a viable option, which forced me to use Green Day after Voltorb went down. Despite Surge spamming Double Team, I managed to push through and got my 3rd badge.

Next, I headed out towards Rock Tunnel, acquiring the Aerial Ace TM and teaching both it and Secret Power to Pet Shop, since it needed stronger STAB moves and I certainly wasn't going to hold out until it got Drill Peck.

Thanks to the new additions, both it and Green Day swept through Route 9 and the first half of Route 10, soon arriving at Rock Tunnel.

I should note at this point that because of the Pokemon I've caught up to this point plus the dupes clause, I was unable to get anything from Route 9 and was forced to catch a Voltorb on Route 10. Looking ahead, this is a problem that's going to repeat itself.

Anyways, I easily clear Rock Tunnel, wondering how I had so much trouble with it as a child and managing to evolve my Green Day in the process. Turns out having one Pokemon to deal with Rock, Ground, and Water types in areas full of trainers that use those types mean s that it'll get overleveled to shit.

Anyways, I clear out Rock Tunnel, clear out the rest of Route 10, and decide to head south past Lavender town to clear out the trainers I can there.

So far, Green Day and Pet Shop are easily the MVPs of my team, taking care of pretty much every battle at this point in the game. Harvest is still okay, though I feel like I've hit the point where he's starting to decline in viability. I know I get Gust soon and I'm close to getting Psychic so hopefully that will help.

Oasis is an unfortunate case. I was looking forward to using this Pokemon given how well it's worked for me in the past, but it's unfortunately just too frail to use most of the time. I'm constantly worried that if I don't one-shot the opposing mon with it, it'll just get knocked out instantly. As a result, I only use it when I know it'll get a kill.

Looking forward to the next few places, I'm practically guaranteed a Vulpix and an Eevee. I'm thinking of turning Vulpix into Ninetales then getting enough coins to give it Flamethrower, then turning the Eevee into a Vaporeon so I have a way to deal with Fire types.

Does that sound optimal?

Ultimately, I decide to pick up both a Vulpix and a Vaporeon just like I said I would.

With Deep Blue Moon sweeping through the Rocket Hideout with Water Pulse, and Pet Shop absolutely decimating Erika, I'm ultimately torn between grinding up AC/DC to the point where it gets Flamethrower and evolving it now, taking care of the Tower now and doing the grinding afterwards, or just not bothering.

Ultimately, I go with the last option, because I want to get a move on, and because I don't really need a Fire type on my team.
So I quickly sweep through Pokemon Tower with Harvest and her newly acquired Psychic (Decided to detour into Saffron to pick it up), and soon I was on my way to Route 17, where I had deliberately avoiding the grass just to catch the Snorlax.

After a long, tedious battle where I nearly lost Green Day and Deep Blue Moon, I finally capture the bastard, quickly making my way past Cycling Road and into Fuschia City (I should note that I initially forgot to name the Doduo I caught. Whoops).

Just got out of the Safari Zone and I'm not sure what to do. I was thinking of cleaning out the surrounding routes, then taking on Silph Co to get everyone up to speed. I'm also thinking of dropping Oasis since he's basically been doing nothing, and I can't even switch train him thanks to playing on Set.

Also should I take on Sabrina or Koga first?

Lilliput the Magikarp was tossed in the daycare while everyone (except Lavoisier) trained in Diglett's Cave to Lv. 29, the cap for Erika. When we reached Lv.29 Lilliput happened to be Lv. 19, so he was evolved and trained to Lv. 28 in Diglett's Cave, learning Water Gun and Bubble Beam from TMs. Because everyone was Lv.29 (bar Laviosier) I was a bit overleveled for Erika. I skipped Route 8's battles so I wouldn't overlevel too much; it didn't matter either way, most of my team was advantaged against the grass-type. The only problem was the Bellsprout's Wrap; only Catherine, Lilliput and Lilienthal could outspeed Bellsprout and its Wrap, and Catherine almost died near the end of Rock Tunnel after being poisoned when I had no more Super Potions; we made it to Lavender with only 10 HP.

The encounters for Rock Tunnel and Route 8 were a Machop and a Growlithe, but I didn't have any Poke Balls for the former, and the latter ran away.

Lilliput was renamed Brobdingag in Lavender Town. We took the pass to Celadon, got the TM Ice Beam, and used it to destroy Erika.

Currently, I am training Hamlet, who I will evolve into a Jolteon.

Like I said, I replaced Oasis with Bites the Dust and grinded both her and the rest of the team up to level 40, before deciding to head into Silph Co.

I swept through both Silph Co and Koga's gym with little to no issues, sans Koga's annoying as fuck Muk who wouldn't stop spamming Minimize and Sludge.

I'm thinking of going after Sabrina, since I feel like the combination of Deep Blue Moon, Pet Shop, and B.I.G can easily sweep her, but I could also take this time and take care of the surrounding routes to grind a bit more and get my catches there, albeit Green Day would get most of that EXP.

Also I'm very glad to say that most of the team is pulling their weight and then some. Bites the Dust is a perfect fit for this team with her bulk, typing, and movepool, B.I.G one or two shots everything the game throws at him, Deep Blue Moon covers any weaknesses I may have had, and Green Day, especially with Leftovers, is nigh fucking unkillable. Pet Shop and Harvest are still pretty okay, although it does feel like they've fallen off a bit, with Pet Shop's lack of power compared to B.I.G and Harvest's frailty making me hesitate to use them as much as I did earlier.

What do you all think? Also should I go splurge my money to get Shadow Ball for B.I.G or just slap Ice Beam onto Deep Blue Moon?

I know that in Gen 1, it didn't learn any Ground type moves leveling up, and in Gen 3, the only one it got naturally was at level 45 and it was Sand Tomb. I know you can get Dig, and I personally like the line, it's just that I'd rather use any other Ground type.

Also I know the pain of Whirlwind/Roar. It's how I lost my first chance at a Vulpix.

And with Chad's whole fucking team swept by JUST Laviente, Yellow is done! It was a bit tougher than Red or Blue was, as you can tell from the death totals, but it was fairly similar, especially with Koga being the hardest gym leader. I'll probably start Gold on Monday.

Picking up right where I left off, I go ahead and clear out Sabrina's Gym, the surrounding routes, the Pokemon Mansion, and Blaine's gym, all without any real difficulty.

I then decide to take Bill up on his offer and go to the Sevii Islands to not only get more grinding in, but also more captures and items. Everything is going really well until I get to Three Island, where what I described in >>39677878 happens and knocks the wind out of my sails.

At this point I'm a mixture of angry and just plain sad because I really wanted to take Harvest to the end, and I know the death was easily preventable if I hadn't taken such a big risk.

But alas, I can't just stand around wondering "what if", so I press on, clear out the Sevii Islands, then go ahead and sweep through the Viridian Gym and Giovanni with the combination of Bites the Dust and Deep Blue Moon, netting me my 8th and final gym badge.

Now I am at a crossroads. I know that I want to grind up B.I.G and Bites the Dust to level 50 before heading out to Victory Road. But I'm also conflicted as to what to do with the newly open slot. I could leave it as is for the sake of time and hope to grab something in Victory Road, I could take some time training up one of the things in my box, or I could get guaranteed Electric type at the Power Plant, just to give me extra insurance vs the E4. What do you think I should do about that last slot.

Also I'm not sure what level I should grind to for the E4 proper. I was thinking 55 just to be even, but would 60 be better to be safe or is 55 fine?

Honestly, Bites the Dust has been absolutely incredible since the moment I grinded her up. She's an absolute fucking tank who can hit really goddamn hard. Not to mention her movepool is incredible to the point where I had to turn down getting Superpower because what I had was already so goddamn good, though I may give her my Blizzard TM before I fight Lance.

Quick update: I managed to snag Bastet the Magnemite at the Power Plant, gave it my Shock Wave TM, and did just enough grinding so that it would evolve. Honestly, I'm only using this as insurance vs Lorelei and both Lance's and Dicklips' Gyaradoses, but it's still nice to have nonetheless.

Oh, and I managed to buy enough coins to get Shadow Ball and Ice Beam. I'll likely get enough to buy Thunderbolt anyways, and Bastet got Spark one level after I caught it, so I'm an idiot for giving it Shock Wave, but oh well

So I said fuck it and kept the run even though I wiped. I was letting Mina destroy everything with her Acrobatics, she solo'd Bianca and N, all the way through Chargestone Cave and then some into Route 7. Meanwhile Bambina had Exp-Share leeching off her.

Then tragedy struck, when I realized Triple Battles were a thing and some random fuck in Route 7 killed the underleveled Leroy and Aris before I could kill his three Pokemon.

I don't know if there's any other Triple Battles coming, so I think I'm gonna stop and grind everyone's levels.

so turns out my rival thought my team was hella thicc and decided to EAT THEIR ASS right before the e4. (also butterfree died in the cave but i replaced him with a cooler butterfly)
so anyway, i remembered Starmie was vastly OP if you load him up with vitamins and i had like, a LOT of spare cash, so a few carbos/calcium later i was ready to go
Lorelei IMMEDIATELY killed Puncho with Cloyster by using submission against him and also being faster than a machoke, but thankfully slowbro let me get 5 growths in and i swept the rest of her team
Summary of bruno, 5 growths to set up, 5 more turns to end it
Agatha met a similar fate ft. Sandslash + swords dance. (i had to kill golbat with Starmie tho)
Lance i was banking off killing dragon with toxic, but gyarados somehow ONE SHOT SPYBUG (after being poisoned) so i tanked him with Ace's recover and let him die. Then lance made the mistake of letting sandslash swords dance and i cut his wimpy dick snakes apart, ONE SHOT AERODACTYL WITH ROCK SLIDE, and, lord bless Gen 1 AI, managed to kill Dragonite because it spams Agility
Then came the rival. Pidgeot got MURDERED by Starmie and Surf, which made me realize i was def too OP with those 10 Calciums. Gyara i thought would be an issue so i threw out Gnatelie to sleep him and damage him a bit but she actually managed to kill it, which was nice. Starmie killed Arcanine and Rhydon in one hit, and somehow Sandslash (cool boy supreme) tanked a hit from Alakazam and killed him with Equake. Then came Penis Sore, er, sorry, Venusaur. It was time for me to whip out my SECRET WEAPON!! A Ninetales with Fire Blast that two shot Venusaur before it could say "Leech Seed + Toxic hax"
And that, my b0is, is how i saved Bellaire

Gonna start a randomized Fire Red nuzlocke, no themed teams, no legendaries and same strength mons for trainers. First reply ending in an even number picks Rival's starter and the second picks mine, no mid stage or fully evolved mons allowed, but single and dual stage pokemons are allowed.

Whitney was actually pretty easy, surprisingly enough. Reflect and Poison Powder with John, then Dig with Johnny to avoid Rollout getting too strong and stall for poison. I did get a Stantler, which is pretty neato, and I realized that Slowpoke sucks mega ass at low levels. Probably gonna put him into the Day Care after I pull Hoppip and Nidoran out.

The hardest part of Morty's gym was not falling thanks to playing at 500% speed. Also, Bill gave me a female Eevee so I used dark magic, and by dark magic I mean Nidoran, to create a level 5 one, then released the mother so my Espeon or Umbreon can have a stab move.

After grinding up Bastet and B.I.G to level 50, I tackled both the rival battle and Victory Road and got through them both pretty easily, arriving at the Indigo Plateau

What I'm probably going to do at this point is grind up everyone to level 60 and give them the TMs I've been storing for this exact moment. My plan going forward in terms of movesets is
>Ice Beam> Aurora Beam on Deep Blue Moon
>Shadow Ball>Rest on B.I.G to deal with Agatha
>Possibly Toxic > Growth on Green Day to deal with fat shit
>Possibly Steel Wing>Aerial Ace on Pet Shop to deal with Jynx in case things go wrong
>Blizzard>Bite on Bites the Dust as my backup for Lance
>Thunderbolt > Spark on Bastet

Okay bros, I know this is total autism, but I've always failed my nuzlocke runs in the past and for sometime I gave up. I've been out of town on business and have been continuing my run of White without updates. Here's a prpoer update now that I'm home.
I have all the badges now. I just got the Legend Badge today. However, I lost Carmanor to Iris's Haxorus and that makes me a little mad. Unfezant is one of the pokemon I want to take to the championship since I've used it in every single Gen 5 run I've attempted, but it always dies at some point in the run.
Now I need a sixth member. I'm biased toward Lallog 2 the Stunfisk for that much appreciated Electric coverage.

While I was doing my HG run, I found out that you can download all the old Nintendo WiFi events if you set your DNS connections correctly. So, I downloaded a bunch of them after I defeated Red and among them were the Celebi and Lock Capsule which can be relocated to Black and White. I decided to use the relocator in my White run to get as much out of the game as I can since I have no idea when I'll play any of the DS pokemon games in the future. It's also why I downloaded the Liberty Pass and caught Victini.

I knew things were going too smoothly.

While grinding up for the 3rd badge, a geodude selfdestructed and took out my Shellos. But hey, accidents happen I guess. So then I take on Maylene with Meditite leading. He had hidden power flying so his mirror and the Machoke go down with no damage to him. Out comes a freaking Lucario and cause Machoke got a leer off, he one-shots him. Fuck. So then I send out my bird. 2 crits and he is down too. So now I am getting worried. I end up sending out Zoa and they are just staring at each other FOREVER alternating mega drain and drain punch. Also sprinkled with plenty of LOL MORE HYPER POTIONS for Lucario whenever he gets in the yellow it seems. Oh yeah, and he had a berry. Eventually, I decided to just just go for it and went Razor leaf. Got 2 crits as well and I guess he had finally run out of potions and I got him. I only had 12 HP left.

Liberty has joined the team. Was very pleased to get him since they have been annoying the absolute shit out of me on routes what with the typing, the hypnosis, the paralysis, and the levitating. Though interestingly the one I got did not have that. So it is vulnerable to ground now but I am less afraid of fire. Not that ground is much of a problem to thie current team as a whole. I think if I can get Whistle to level 30 and X_Scissor, I might be able to take him all the way.

Also there is a typo. Bastet is at 27, not 17.

6th badge acquired. Skyla and her gym was a joke with Mina. I always loved Emolga, but never actually used one in game. She's a beast and carrying my team in her back.

I think this team is coming up pretty good, just need to grind a lot for Brycen, since Mina's squishiness could get her killed in one shot.

Very first nuzlocke run, chose an easy game using basic rules, so far so good. Wish I had run into a pansage or pansear or pikachu in santalune instead of this bug. Lucked out with a Huge Power azurill. So far, so good.

I swapped Grizz for Kinpo, since Beartic is such a slow Pokemon. I was thinking of switching Rocky for a Carracosta, since I just got the fossil for it. Not sure if it's a good move however. I also don't really like Bambina too much, since I barely have any real use for Grass moves. But I'm not sure what I could switch it for.

Just got done with the Relic Castle, unto Nacrene City or something.

I grinded all my Pokemon to the level of Ghetsis, since IIRC right after the Elite Four you gotta battle N and Ghetsis right?

I took on Marshall first, and Freedom + Kinpo made short work of his team, Freedom's stats suck however and he barely does damage to anything that isn't Fighting so this is about the only time he ever was useful.

Caitlin was pretty easy with Chandelure, but I thought I could use Bambina's Faint Attack here. Was proven wrong when her Reuniclus one shot her with Focus Blast.

Shauntal was easily swept by Burly after setting up Swords Dance on her Cofagrigus.

Grimsely was a piece of cake with Kinpo's Fighting moves.

The fight against N was uneventful to say the least. I was planning on not using Zekrom against him, but the loss of Bambina earlier foiled my plants and was forced to use it to complete my team. I just spammed Dragon Breath on Reshiram until it died, then I just exploited all his team's weakness.

Then came Ghetsis

Despite my worries, I managed to beat the E4 and Dicklip without losing a single mon. I'm beyond elated over the fact that I pulled this off. To get into detail...

Bastet easily swept Lorelei with Thunderbolt exactly like I hoped they would

Green Day make a complete mockery of Bruno, not taking a single hit the entire match and stalling them out with Sleep Powder+Leech Seed+Synthesis

Agatha was a bit tougher, but not nearly as bad as I had imagined, sans for a close call with her level 58 Gengar and Deep Blue Moon. Outside of that instance, B.I.G and Deep Blue Moon destroyed her

Bastet took out Lance's Gyrados and from there, Deep Blue Moon oneshotted everything with Ice Beam

Dicklip though, was a lot tougher than I had imagined. It starts off pretty well, with Bastet OHKOing Pidgeot right out of the gate, Deep Blue Moon making relatively short work of his Charizard, and Pet Shop Drill Pecking Exeggutor to death.

However, once Rhydon came out, things got a bit tense, since Fearow was out and Vaporeon was below half health from dealing with the Charizard. I managed to maneuver around it by having B.I.G take 2 hits while I healed up Deep Blue Moon, and from there, he knocked it out with Surf.

But then his Alakazam came out, and since B.I.G was dangerously low, I needed to heal him, so I went Bastet not only to tank, but also to hopefully paralyze it. Somehow, through a combination of paralysis and sheer dumb luck, I manage to not only heal up B.I.G and get him in, but I do so without losing Bastet in the process. After a couple Shadow Balls, Zam is down, leaving Dicklip's Gyarados as the final Pokemon

I don't know if Bastet can tank a Hydro, so I send in Green DAy to stall it out, and with a combination of Razor Leaf, Leech Seed, and Sleep Powder, I eventually kill it, albeit almost losing Green Day on the last turn to a fucking Thrash crit

And that was that. I won, I fucking won. 1/2

2/2 I guess I should give my thoughts here.

Going into this, I didn't think I'd actually make it this far. My only experience with Nuzlockes prior to this were randomized ones I did of Emerald, which I had almost always lost for one reason or another. Really, I had only even thought of attempting this because I had nothing better to do and wanted to see how far I would get. Given how much trouble I had early game, between almost losing the first rival battle to losing two team members to Misty to just getting really shitty catches overall, I thought that I wouldn't even make it to Sabrina, much less beat the whole fucking game.

As for the next run, I don't see myself doing one for a while, but if I do, I may just try to tackle Gen 2, see how well I fare there.

Oh, I also wanted to say that in terms of Nuzlockes, FRLG feels like a game where the difficulty is very frontloaded, where the first 3 badges make up the hardest parts of the game, and everything from then on is easier in comparison, albeit this is just from my experience. The VS seeker definitely helps with this, giving you essentially an infinite supply of money and EXP and making grinding an absolute cinch.

This is not the case in newer gens since they revamped most movesets and the newer mons have very diverse moves allowing them to cover their weaknesses.

It's absolutely crazy. Technically it's something that hasn't really changed, since outside of bosses and ace trainers/veterans most trainers just use the last 4 moves a Pokemon would learn at that point, but it's much more apparent here

Likely Gen 2. I actually haven't played HGSS (Or gen 4 in general. Missed out on that when I was younger) and I want my first run through of it to be a normal one. It'll still be interesting though, given that my Gen 2 experience is very, very limited, especially to that of Gen 3

You can do what Nuzlocke did, which is throw a ball every turn against every Pokemon you run into until you catch something, and that's your single Safari Zone encounter.
That way, you get at least one capture guaranteed, whereas with the one per area rule, you can get 0 or you can get several, depending on how lucky you are.

Just got out of Eterna Forest unscathed. I added new clauses to my previous rules. I can get any event Pokemon, even if on the same route. Thus I got both a Rotom and a Gengar, but I didn't catch a regular Pokemon in that route to make up for it.

I also changed the one fossil clause, to become a one fossil per gen clause, I rolled the die and the three I got were Aero for Gen 1, Anorith for Gen 3, and Cranidos for Gen 4.

I guess this might make the game very easy, since I'm about to fill up a whole PC box, but fuck it, I've lost 5 times already so whatever.

Once again Wukong did not make it to the second gym, poor guy keeps dying early on. The same Scyther that killed him has killed other of my Fire Pokemon in previous runs. Fuck that Wing Attack.

Exploud is great, all the way from Gen 3 and beyond pretty much, it's a little fragile, especially so as a Whismur/Loudred, but as long as you take care of it (and maybe invest in some Carbos/Speed EVs) it'll take you far
Personally I used one in Sapphire as part of my autismlocke, Just straight up used Normal move + 3 elemental moves, used Stomp and Shock wave for quite a bit, but ended up with Return/Shock Wave/Ice Beam/Flamethrower as my final moveset, but I know it also learns good shit like Shadow Ball, Brick Break, Focus Blast and Surf (Gen 4 and beyond only sadly)

Jawsie chomped on her Ghosts, with the exception of her Mismagius (Fairy/Ghost) that got jabbed by Drillbo. I forgot to use Petal to take on her Spiritomb, and instead just one-shot it with Chil'd and his Blaze Kick.

Pokemon Mansion event: Cleared. Mr. Backlot and Saturn double battle was pretty tough, even costing me Petal. Thankfully I had been Exp. Sharing to Kimonai, who was about to replace Petal anyways.

Adamant nature does not go well with a Meganium, especially since the reason I had him on my team was the Fairy typing, but it had very low special attack to be usable. A Gardevoir though, that'll do nicely.

This is officially the farthest I've ever gotten in Renegade Platinum. Well, the last time I also defeated the Pokemon Mansion double battle, but I believe I only had one Pokemon left, and it got killed right after by a random trainer. So everything from here on out is stuff I haven't seen, we're probably about to witness a bunch of deaths.

The more I hang around people playing Nuzlockes, the more I realize there are two basic schools of thought on what a Nuzlocke wipe means, and neither seems particularly aware that the other exists. Some people think a Nuzlocke is over with a single loss, other people think that you should have the option to rebuild with boxed pokes. I think if you wipe you should just say you did, and then if you want to continue do so, and the people who consider a wipe a loss can just consider anything that happens after irrelevant. Assuming you give a damn what anyone else thinks of your run, but if you're posting updates, you're going to get some sort of reaction one way or the other.

Just got out of Rock Tunnel with some new buddies. Fun trip all things considered, except for Martin, the boy got the Goomba treatment from some random guy's Spoink.
I also got lucky with the random items and got myself a Lucky Egg. Grinding will get way easier now.
Will update after Erika, which shouldn't take long since Pangaea is one level away from the level cap.

Personally, I use the Caught In part of the summary screen to determine, so all floors of a cave are the same area. Some people use a one per zone rule for the Safari Zone since it's so different from the rest of the game.

I do pretty much what >>39701406 said, Safari Zone areas count individually because your catches could all just run away either way. One thing I do in later gens is count the inside and outside of dungeons as separate places, like Reversal Mountain or later Victory Roads

So, even though the randomizer has been giving me a shit hand to play with, Erika was a breeze. Her team consisted of Sandslash, Marowak and Seaking, which would've been the end of me had I battled her right away, but luckily I did both the Gamecorner and Pokemon Tower before challenging her.
Out of the whole squad, Soret, TruDirect and MEX hves been putting in a lot of work, plus Blunt has been a fucking beast and I seriously hope I get a Moon Stone soon. Afreaka and Pangaea have been shitters through and through though, so I'm expecting to lose all my other mons and be stuck with these two in the near future if my luck so far is anything to go by.

Had some REALLY stupid deaths this time, and some that really hurt the overall run
Zatanna, although not very powerful, was a major help with Charm/Thunder Wave support, lost to a Wailmer that refused to get caught and instead decided to crit on their 4th Rollout
Planned on replacing Zatanna with Nikita, who's pretty much just a better option, but then my brain temporarily turned off while grinding, I used Protect to be able to train her with Hephaestus against Gabby and Ty, but then without thinking I used Protect twice in a row and proceeded to Earthquake cuz "I just have to finish off Exploud"...suffice to say I'm not gonna let myself forget this one easily
Then there's Xiao Wu, who was almost fully EV trained in Attack when a punk Corphish decides to outspeed and land a crit Crabhammer on their face. There goes my Phoebe counter

My plan now is to try and gather resources for the league, I can bruteforce Sidney with Tip Topper, and most likely get through Drake with him too (worried about that Kingdra), but I have no solid counter against Phoebe or Glacia, and Gardevoir might not be enough for Wallace

Crossing my fingers for a good Banette in Sky Pillar, maybe a Chinchou from Route 124/126 would be good, and I might be able to snag a Makuhita from Victory Road, but we'll see

So I was about to reach Veilstone City, my team was all pretty wounded, but thus far the trainers in that route hadn't posed much of a challenge.

Then this fucking Ace Trainer just kills half of my team. It's always the most unexpected deaths that get you. Had it been against a gym leader I'd be fine, but some randomass trainer has me seething.

It was a great team comp, with attacks of all 18 types. If I had just gone back and healed, instead of pushing on. He was literally the last trainer before reaching the Pokemon Center.

RIP Bullet, Drillbo, Kimonai.

Doing a blind Platinum nuzlocke, my Gyarados and Staraptor have been amazingly good this run.

Plowed through Volkner’s gym with my asshole clenched to the max, and my gyarados at level 48. Now i’m staring down a jolteon and i think this run is truly fucked.

Basically everyone died to Koga and had to rebuild the team (2 X-Attacks in a row on Muk is bullshit). Nugget Bridge including Blue is the hardest part of the run but if you conserve Pidgeys to spam sand-attack it's not too bad. Had a blast and am going to attempt Crystal next.

Had a close call just outside of Lumiose with a pokefan with a Pichu and Pikachu, as just about my whole team is weak to electric or just not very strong. Got lucky with retard cpu choosing Charm, Growl, and Play Nice over and over. Pidgey steamrolled Viola no problem. Mad about the male Combee, especially since the next encounter was a Ralts, but it's nice to gather some honey before I box him forever. Started super training Froakie for special sweeping.

Took a few hard hits and basically have to pause to grind up. Buizel and Wingull both died to some wild Ponyta of all things. My own fault after Buizel died, I got pissed and wanted to put it down. Then it got stomped and critted. So then I got smart and backed out.

I also did not want to spend a slot on the defog HM as I headed north to Cynthia's hometown. Until Whistle the Cricket died cause he missed 5 times in a row in a trainer battle. Is the fog accuracy debuff only one way?!

So now I brought in Silly, Clint, and Penelope from the box. I got plenty of TMs to teach but want to hold off until I am sure all these guys are going to survive. Probably gonna bring everyone up to level 30 before resuming the game.

Also interesting you're playing with no dupes clause, and I agree the Nugget bridge section is easily the hardest part given how strong his Pokemon are at that point, whether it be RBY or FRLG

I LOVE BITCH DEER! I'm really glad you asked because I've always wanted to use Stantler. Everyone's on this team puts in work but BITCH DEER is my most reliable switch-in when someone else is in danger. He only has Normal coverage but he's fast and he tears holes in things, and he almost never misses a Hypnosis (that's where the llama spit blurb comes from)

Your team looks great though! I'm never satisfied with Bronzor in-game but I bet it's great for Nuzlockes

Juan went much better than expected, Elizaveta singlehandedly took care of the whole battle, took out Luvdisc with a Thunderbolt, set up two Calm Minds on Crawdaunt who could do next to nothing to us, and then went on to sweep the rest of his team

Now, things are gonna be...interesting towards the end, I'm planning on grinding everyone up to at least 60, and I need to gather plenty of money to get Ice Beam and vitamins for Nebiros and Bok Choy so they can catch up.
I'm still slightly worried about Glacia and Drake, but I'll know by tomorrow how it goes

Also, just got Pearl in the mail today, so I'm completely ready to start Sinnoh when I'm done with Emerald (which I pray to god will be tomorrow)

This is followed by another Psyshock and Swift
Third turn has Valerie use a Hyper Potion as Ashley uses Flamethrower.
Another Psyshock and Swift turn.
I decide to have Ashley heal herself with Rest, and Sylveon uses Charm for no good reason.
Sylveon fires off two Swifts while Ashley sleeps, but Psyshock finishes it off once she wakes up.

It starts of nicely with a Flamethrower Crit as Mime sets up Light Screen.
Valerie uses another Hyper Potion, and I decide to use Psyshock to get around Light Screen- turns out it doesn't work like that and Psyshock does close to nothing.
Back to Flamethrower, as Mime starts firing off Psychics.
This then repeats twice, but the last turn Mime gets burned and the burn damage finishes it off.

For Glacia, I'd honestly switch up BD on Hariyama for Bulk up. It's a lot less risky imo

For Drake, Tip Topper and Huut Cutuur should be enough if the latter gets Ice Beam.

Also the trainers before and right after Petalburg Forest have a SHITLOAD of money, especilly if you have the Amulet Coin.

I think I will make it. The lady in Solaceon makes grinding a Pokemon a joke, in 10 minutes I can hit level 50 if I use the speed up button.

I also have way too many boxed pokemon, so even if I lose half my team in each big incoming battle, I should (hopefully) still be able to rebuild.

Yes, the Hariyama literally has the moveset I caught it with (minus Brick Break), same with the Banette, so none of their moves are set in stone

And I'm not sure I'd even go for Bulk Up but I might as well put it on him, not sure if there's a point where he could reliably set up since I can't heal at all

And with Drake I'm mostly just worried about his Kingdra, the thing has caused me plenty of trouble in the past so I'm worried that it might cause me trouble now too

And yeah I'm considering trying to grind money off them, but I'm not sure how much faster they are than just grinding off Gabby&Ty considering it takes time to get the rich trainers to want to rebattle you...these 480,000 pokedollars aren't gonna be easy either way

Not really on the MVP part. Most of the team has done well for itself outside the Milotic(who I suspect is gonna start kicking ass soon).

Well, I edited out a part of this episode where we TRIED to use escape rope so we could release Dewey this episode, but it wouldn't let us and walking back would take too long, so... find out first thing tomorrow if I was an idiot, I suppose?
